Hello. Friend of mine and I we are having a BIG problem with this, so if anybody has any experience with removing SVD barrel it will be great if he can share some tips with me. The rifle in question is Russian SVD, made in 1980 and we want to change the barrel because the rifling is all gone.
We were trying to unscrew it for 2 hours with no luck... My friend is an experienced gunsmith and he knows haw to remove an AK barrel for example, but this is beyond our knowledge. All of the barrel attachments - flashhider, sight carrier and etc. are removed - only barrel and receiver are left. So, please, help me with this!

Thank you in advance.

Best, Boris

P.S. Please, excuse my poor English.

Hello. The barrel is screwed in the receiver - the thread is visible at the locking lugs area.

Well, you might need to try a little heat from a propane torch if it has been sitting a while.
I wish i could be of more help, my working experince with these is very limited.
Are you near a bar named Kama Sutra, can't remember if it was in Sofia or somewhere else.
I will see what i can find out for you with this.

Really stupid question - it is possibly also pinned in place?

Thats what i'm hearing also, there is a shop i deal with in Oklahoma that builds these.
When i get into the shop today i will try to give them a call and find out for you one way or another.
On the question of the bar, i understand, i would not go in to places like this also.
I was trying to put a "face" on the area you live in, i ment no disrespect for this, we will get this solved.

Hello. The barrel is not pinned - just VERY tigh fit... The real problem is that the receiver has very thin walls and we can not get a good grip with the vice because we risk to warp it.

Best, Boris

P.S. I am sorry, Simmonsguns, I did not mean to be rude. Actualy I live near by, but realy do not like places like this - too many young people (especialy girls) looking like... You know...

You were not rude, same problem around here also. i'm to old to have to deal with the noise and people there, that ain't music.
I had to leave a message with mike at the firing line, hopefully he will get back to me.
The only way i could think of clamping onto these would be barrel in the vice with nylon jaws and useing a action wrench on the trunion to get a good grip without touching the receiver, i don't know what kind of tools you have but even thick piece of leather that is wet would give a good grip on the barrel in a big vice.
As far as the action wrench, 2 blocks of steel with 1/2 inch bolts and a handle welded to one block would work fine.
