Paranoid...a rant

I was thinking back to when I got my CCW and this bit popped into my head....
---------------------------------

Once upon a time...
I wanted a firearm for personal protection
They said I was "paranoid"
I said "I disagree and I still want one".
They said "we're not sure you can be trusted"
I said "how can I prove myself to your satisfaction?"
They said "Well, here's a list of things that would satisfy us".

So the list was followed with scrupulous care. Money was paid, time was spent, investigations were allowed into personal history, mental status, friends, and anything else they could think of. Time was taken from work to meet their schedules for fingerprinting and investigations and two aborted attempts to pick up a permit. History, habits, associates, mental status....all demonstrated to be squeeky clean and above board.

Still the trust is given reluctantly, if at all.

Who is "paranoid" again?

to just buy a gun, can't imagine they'll ever figure a procedure for carry here that doesn't involve a proctascope.:what:

government in American, once upon a time, was told by its citizens what was needed and was reactive in its methods. something changed and it started to mother its citizens...it knew what was best for us. that way of thinking was tolerated and grew. now, we the citizens have to ask, indeed-beg *our* government to be allowed to do that which we are constitutionally entitled to do. ...and if permission is granted, we are thankful.
when did this happen?
why do we allow it to continue?

At least you guys can still carry. Up in Canada we are totally defenceless. (Unless you have an 870 in your truck and you take your truck everywhere)

I saw a bumper sticker today that said, "When Bush took office, gas was $1.46 a gallon".

I hadn't seen that bumper sticker before, nor had I realized gas had climbed that far, that fast. What is happening to America should make us all paranoid as Hell.

And here's the criminal's version:

I wanted to carry a gun...
so I did, yo.

And WE are the one's "they" aren't sure they can trust :banghead:

[I go through that] to just buy a gun, can't imagine they'll ever figure a procedure for carry here that doesn't involve a proctascope.

The sad part is that I know many who would go through that if it allowed them to CCW in IL.
