Experiences of carrying rifle all day discreetly.

Anyone have any experience of carrying a rifle around 24/7 (Not while in military service).
I'm planning on using a BH Discreet Weapons Case.
http://www.blackhawkindustries.com/uploads/product_images/65DC22BK.jpg
Does anyone have any hands on time with one of these?
I know it will be a lot of equippment to haul all day.
Handgun, mags, flashlight, rifle, rifle mags +++ :uhoh:

Another option is a soft guitar case.

It's a great case. Very configurable. There are lots of different velcro pouches available for it. I wouldn't want to carry it around all day though.

P'shaw to all of ya.
Sngle point sling under one arm and a big old cowboy coat.
If not that, then, yeah, I'd look into tweeking some kinda musical instrument case to suit your needs. While the discreet rifle case doesn't immediately ID itself as a rifle case, neither does it look like anything else.
Hmmm, what do peole carry in a black nylon case thats about the size of a rifle...:p
You may not tickle your neighbor's attention, but I can't imagine you sliding my more than 1 or 2 LEOs. Not to mention other shooters, (ex)military people, etc.

The case will be the 22" model (Second smallest).
http://www.blackhawkindustries.com/uploads/product_images/65DC16-40BK_2.jpg
Picture is 32 or 35" model.
The single point sling idea works (Have one). But it makes a hell of a bulge!:scrutiny:

Kobun, still looks like a gun case.
I did grad skul in Chicago when there is no violence because there are no guns. I carried an AR-15 and Rem 870 shotgun in a hard guitar case when I left my apartment. Worked very well and I did not look like a, shudder, gun owner.
Don't forget to rubber band them together so they do not rattle. (Ask me about rattling in front of a CPD car sometime:D).

um... just out of curiosity... what's the point of carrying a rifle 24/7?
yeah yeah, I know ya don't gotta prove you "need" to in a free country -- I just don't understand the reasoning... is your neighborhood THAT bad?

One would think that a moderator of a gun forum would be aware of preparedness motivations and wouldn't waste our time by hijacking the thread with such a question.

I'd say that's a legitimate question. A rifle carried around in a case that looks like a soft rifle case obviously isn't a defensive arm. Unless you know some way to instantaneously quick draw a zippered long arm while being accosted by a BG.

Chill, AZRickD. It's a legitimate question of curiosity...
I'm thinking of doing the same thing. I like the idea of the soft guitar case, but I'm afraid that someone might want me to play something... :what:
My in-laws scuba dive, and the duffles they use are huge. They could easily carry a rifle & a CASE of ammo. With the diver's flag on it, it would probably pass a cursory glance. Have a diver's magazine nearby just in case.
Other options could include a closable golf bag, large toolbox, large fishing tackle box, or hangable garment bag.

I've got one of the BH cases for my 16" Bushy. As for why, I bought it for taking out of town trips. It looks less like a rifle case (though I guess it does look enough like a rifle case to attract the attention of someone who is kinda "in the know"). Now a days, I just break it down and stow it in the bottom of the same duffel bag I keep the rest of my stuff in. As to why I'd want to take a long arm with me out of town, well, I can't predict what tomorrow holds (look at the recent power outages), so it just lets me sleep better.

AZRickD, for what would one be preparing, that a 24/7 concealed carry of a rifle is important?
Most of us understand having a rifle or shotgun in the trunk of one's car; or having one ready to hand at certain places of work, and all that sort of thing. This particular query seems a bit out of the ordinary...

The case is not for carrying around a rifle here, at home.
Here nobody cares if you walk around with a rifle case.
I've even seen people come into a liquor store with a dog and a hunting rifle slung across the back. (Not the dog!!! :p)
Nobody cared. :)
I usually just toss everything in a backpack when going to work.
I've been about 50 yards away from half the royalty in Europe with my AUG.
I don't care about them, so I was just walking past, and I'm not the kind of person to pull out a rifle (or any other gun) in a crowd, unless it were to help someone in great need.
I am however going to South Afrika for a few weeks next month, and there the law says to eighter lock guns up, or carry them.
Last time I was there I met and talked to quite a few cops, and I know that many of them knew me and my friends were carrying. (Worldshoot logo cap)... but they didn't care.
Guns have to be consealed/covered in SA. And since I cant leave the 552 in the car, I need something to carry it in.
I'll also bring my Neostead, but that is to get it upgraded to 2'nd edition at the factory. I really wouldn't want to carry my G34, 552 and Neostead around at all times! :uhoh:
So, it is not the biggest consern to be "made" as a rifle case. There really isn't that many rifles that fit in a 22" case anyways, so my guess is that it looks a bit more like a rugged large computer case.
I'm going to travel with a friend (G17), and I'll make him carry the case half the time. Just don't tell him! :p

I still want my full-auto Thompson sub-machine gun and a 100-rd drum in a violin case. That would be cool.:D
And a fedora and a pinstripe suit, and a nasal Italian accent. And the nickname Vinny or something....:scrutiny:

Picked up a bunch of stickers for random bands while at a punk show, stuck them all over a Doskocil case. Turns a case of pistols into a CD collection, microphone case, or whatever. Too bad there's no way to make a locking case look like it has something cheap and non-pawnable in it...
Now looking for gun promo stickers to stick all over my mandolin case and such. Any good place to (affordably) get a bunch o' libertarian gun-nut stickers?

What about this:

Guess that could make it even more obvious.
Maby a patch from a computer bag would work, although that might get the bag unwanted attention.
Hmm...
What about the computer patch, and a sign saying: This computer has a different keyboard than what you really want! :D

aaaooooooohhh. makes perfect sense.
unusual behavior as a result of complying with a silly law. Got it. Not like we do anything like that here in the US or anything.
"Hey dude.. will you weld this 4.5" flash suppressor that doesn't suppress flash on this little barrel for me?"
:)
Hrmm.. if you only need to carry it to abide by the law.. could you leave the bulk of it at your place, and only carry your receiver? Comply with the letter of the law and all that? Seems less bother.... or do SA laws consider ALL of the firearm a firearm?

Kobun, how are the 'import' rules going into SA? Anything weird that might hang you up when you bring in an 'assault rifle'?
They really just let anyone carry most anything as long as it's concealed?
Thats awesome...

South African import regs are pretty relaxed, except that you can't bring in a semi-auto long gun at all... risk of revolution, and all that sort of thing. (The fact that a full-auto AK-47 and a mag of ammo can be bought on the street in Soweto for under $100 is neither here nor there, of course... ). Handguns can be brought in, and a license to possess one is automatically a license to carry it concealed - emphasis on CONCEALED! If it becomes visible, even by accident, it can be confiscated by police on the grounds of "brandishing".

Wouldn't two guys with a huge bag of diving equippment in the middle of a desert/dry grassland bring some unwanted attention? :uhoh: :D
I'm allready tall and blond, which brings wanted attention from females in countries where blonde guys are scarce. :D
Kaylee,
I wouldn't want to come back to the car/hotell and find major parts of my guns missing.
Too much hassle and too expensive. :uhoh:

good idea, but that barrel is a bit too long for me. ;)

I just gave you a suggestion. I can't be responsible for how it affects people's perception of your style & sanity... :neener:
Try the toolbox idea. They make soft tool cases, and a few "Craftsman" or "Snap-On" patches (or whatever your best toolmaker is) might work...
Of course, if you're called to actually FIX something, you're on your own...

Just FYI for those of us in America, I've had more than one CCW expert and cop tell me that packing a rifle in a guitar case CAN be construed as carrying a concealed weapon.
Circumstances vary.
You didn't have a case while you were moving and didn't wanna upet the nieghbors=Ok.
You want to take your AR-15 into the club where your band is playing=NOT OK.
I know there was one case in Denver of a gang banger being stopped with a shotgun in a guitar case.
Funny more and more of my friends in bands buy double rifle cases for their guitars, as they are cheaper, really sturdy and have more room to stow effects pedals etc.
