That's the pocket model, the Walch Navy was a full size .36 revolver with a trigger guard.
It looks somewhat like a Colt Navy, with no topstrap and hinged loading lever; but with the long superimposed charge cylinder and a prawl at the top of the backstrap.

Figured in a Louis L'Amour story, the kingshark thought he had run the hero out of ammunition shooting it out with minions. But he was only half empty.

The Walsh used superposed charges and rounds IIRC. It had dual hammers, and the spark for the top round traveled alongside the chamber until it passed in front of the deeper loaded ball.
I think Winchester made them for Walsh ... my memory is hazy, but I think Winchester had trouble collecting payment from Walsh ... whatever???
I don't believe they ever really caught on; maybe for financial reasons noted above ... or maybe because the idea of superposed rounds sounded like a better idea on paper than it was in reality.

One would find out very quickly if the first ball prevents fire from leaking to the charge!

Never seen one, anyone have a photo?

I have read about them in the Louis Lamour books.

Looking at the picture I realize the loads were not superposed as I had thought when I posted the above. Or maybe they are. Hard to tell.

Odd looking piece.

Yes, the loads are superimposed. Occasionally both charges went off. The Walsh was only one of many superimposed load firearms. Lindsay(sp?) made two-shot muskets and pistols for the US forces, as well as several other minor gunmakers.

The walsh .36 fired 12 shots. It had two triggers and two hammers. It was about twelve inches long and weighed about two pounds. Some had walnut grips.

Wow...

What an intersting Arm...

No bad looking, either.

I'd guess a superimposed Load when fired, would compress the Load behind it pretty well..!
