I bought a used, but probably unfired 1805 harpers ferry in 58. It came with the presentation box and flask that throws 50 grains. Dixie Gun works said it needs 35 grains. How many grains does she need?

Is it the rifle or the pistol? If the pistol then 35gr with a PRB should shoot well. If a rifle then 50gr with a PRB will make a light load. I load mine with 70gr with a PRB. The frizzens on a lot of these are a little soft.

The Model 18105 was a flint pistol.

Supposedly, it used the same load as the musket of the day and while I am sure that happened, it probably did not happen often.

30 grains still sounds light to me.

The pistol was issued mostly as a status symbol and not used that often.

I guess I can try both. I assume the 35 grains is enough to expel the ball? How do you post a picture?
