I'm sure this has been answered before but everything I tried had 10K results...

I am looking for a decent brown leather belt holster for my 657 .41 3" barrel

What I want is a basic holster to ride on my belt when up in the MTNs. I've been getting my with a cheap Uncle Mike's Nylon unit but I'm ready to get out of the metaphorical ghetto.

I don't need anything fancy, just a nice basic holster. Decorations would be wasted on me. I don't want to spend a lot of money on it since it is an occasional thing. I have no plans to CC this pistol.. sort of big for that.

Any thoughts?

Might check with El Paso Saddlery.

Myself I use a Kramer mahogany horsehide and a matching dump pouch. It's not a tan but I think it's an attractive color. AFAIK matching belt would be unique to Kramer.

I have a mild preference for horse for a field holster.

Although right handed I wear the revolver as though left handed maybe 7:30 to keep it out of the way of things in my right hand or a rifle slung on the right shoulder.

Mine is a Lew Horton/PC with a barrel just under 3" and slabsided with an unfluted cylinder but I use the Kramer standard for 3" fluted no issues. Long ago and far away I carried a Model 58 including concealed but concealed only in heavy winter clothing.

41, I had one of those 3" 657's, and my only workable solution was to use a standard 4" N-frame holster, there simply wasn't anything else available for it without ordering a custom-made one. I did, however, manage to use a set of K-frame round butt grips from Pachmayr, they were tight but they stretched to fit.

I sure miss that gun, I got it from a fellow cop who'd tried to carry it off-duty, it was just too big, and he was a lot bigger than I! We agreed it had "The Illiusion of Concealability", but unless you were built like Lou Ferigno, it wasn't real practical. Hang on to that gun, it's a classic!

Greg Kramer makes good Holsters, and I recommend him. I also recommend Milt Sparks and Matt Del Fatti, all three of them have something that will surely work for you.

Once you "cross over" to good leather, nothing else will do. I cannot speak of El Paso Saddlery, as I've not been happy with their one product that I purchased from them.

Thanks guys! I'm going to check out those options. I have no intention of getting rid of this gun, it's too nice. For grips I found a Pachmayr decelerator grip that fits it perfectly. Much less ouchy now. Before those grips all the round butt wood ones did was teach me to flinch.

I have a 3" N, but use a shoulder holster. For belt rigs, I hear other folks are VERY fond of their "sour dough pancakes" from Simply Rugged. Give them a google and you'll find their site. Good prices, too.

I agree with Feanaro, Simply Rugged makes great products which are comfortable to use and they work!

Their Sourdough Pancake (http://www.simplyrugged.com/leather_goods/index.html) holster keeps the gun close to the body so it's comfortable to wear all day. ($55-$65) They also sell good heavy belts, ammo pouches and other extras, all can be died the same color when you order. Their stuff comes in Brown, Black, Tan or Oxblood. Shipping is cheap too....

I have used these for quite a few years with my 3 inch N-frames, including their belts.

I have a Simply Rugged pancake style holster and can carry it strong side, or crossdraw, if I want. A very good holster at a reasonable price.

I strongly suggest, however, no matter which holster you buy, buy a sturdy matching belt for it. A standard dress belt, or thin belt will not make the holster and revolver secure. Buy the belt, too.

Leanwolf- I had one of these for a 2.5" K-frame. I liked it, but my complaint was that it hung too low for good concealment and should have ridden higher. How high does it ride in the 3" N frame model?

I have some EPS holsters (#77 & #88) for my revolvers that I'm happy with but I prefer the JW O'Rourke pancakes.
