I've run thousands of rounds through my 550B without a problem, but tonight I keep getting widely varying charges from the powder measure. I'm talking about a range of up to.8 grains. Anyone else ever have a problem like this?

Is the wing nut on the fail safe rod tightened down enough to ensure that the powder bar returns all the way?

Also, make sure the powder bar is making a full stroke. With pistol it’s generally not a problem as a little bell is necessary, but with rifle one can make that mistake.

I have a Square Deal B press and a couple of years ago I started to have the same problem. It was the wing nut on the bottom of the fail-safe rod. The spring above the wing nut had gotten compressed through use and I had neglected to tighten the wing nut as necessary. Now I check the tightness of that wing nut every time I use the press. I called Dillon when I was having the problem and they told me to check a couple of things but never even mentioned the wing nut. I found the problem just by checking everything on the press and reading through the manual again.
