Interestingly, there are pictures from the various gun-free socialist paradises England, Scotland, Germany, Sweden, California and Hawaii.

The urge to put a few rounds into a roadsign must be deep in our evolutionary makeup.

One from England:

I find few things more infuriating than the *******s who feel the need to shoot every rural sign they see. Disgusting.

I wish I had a picture. Growing up in rural upstate NY we had a road near my house called "Hoodlum Hill Road". The sign would regularly be shot up, then someone would saw it off the post and steal it. Within a few weeks the county would replace it. Wash, Rinse, Repeat.

After about 8 rounds of this they started replacing it with a seriously cheap small plastic sign

I have to agree with that statement. Just recently the county replaced all of the road signs around our land and several other pieces of land. Around 20 signs or so. This was about a month ago, about 2 weeks ago I headed out to run traps and every sign I passed had fresh bullet holes in it.

It just aggravates me to see things like that.

I have nothing but hate and vitriol for the loathsome, mouth-breathing cretins who go around shooting up road signs.

Alot of signs around here a beat up like that but there happen to be a few farmers that patrol regularly and have called the cops on a few kids that ended up getting some sort of a misuse of weapons charge

About 99% of the time, I agree. Ditto for graffiti.

However, I'd say that shooting specific signs, in specific locations, in specific ways, can qualify as guerrilla art. On some rare occasions, it's done by someone who isn't a mouth-breathing cretin, even if that's a rare person indeed, among spray-can wielders and sign-shooters.

Driving into San Francisco years ago, I saw a big Hostess billboard with a big picture of a Twinkie package. It said, "San Francisco, Home of the Twinkie". Under that, someone had spray painted, in huge black letters "Defense".

I had a good dark laugh at that one. That was political art, not simply the work of mouth-breating cretins. The crude form of protest by liberals against the injustice of liberal policies formed an intriguing juxtaposition.

And not every sign put up by our beloved government is sacred, that's for sure.

Maybe I try to inject a bit more nuance into my anger and hatred than Justin does, though.:p

And yes, mindless random shootings of road signs are bad.

I detest +1 posts, but I just finished typing up a similar post to what ArmedBear posted, hit the button and then realized he'd pretty much beat me to the punch so instead...

somebody recently took 2 rounds of birdshot to a sign near my favorite hunting area. I can only hope that some of the shot bounced back and did eaqual damage to their car.

I agree that a few well-placed bullet holes which don't injure anyone can beautify this planet. However, the type of people that regularly shoot at at road signs usually don't have nor need an artistic outlet. Yeah...... I guess that's a stereotype.
