I tried to find if I could get a SRS hit on 1911 sn 308977 but could not locate the page. Is it out of service or under construction? Any leads are appreciated. Thank you, Bill

best I recall. Last time a friend had a 1911 I used the website to look up the serial number. Somehow it had a lot of martial 1911 and 1911A1's serial numbers and linked them up to old army records. The one I checked out years ago had a link to an arsenal rebuild or something similiar. I don't remember buit it was fun to look up. Bill

I wondered what Social and Rehabilitation Services had to do with Colt serial numbers!

Pity the poor Ol’ Fuff…

The border country is filled with agencies with letters rather then names, and besides he never learned shorthand either…

Pistol No. 308,977 was probably included in a 4,200 Gun shipment with serial numbers ranging from 305,000 to 321,000 (not inclusive) that went from Colt to Springfield Armory on May 23, 1918.

If you do get to the Springfield records this might narrow their search. ;)
