Bumping. A post without content, made to bring a thread to the top of the page for more exposure. Some boards don't like that.

For regular day to day conversational items it would be annoying.

If the thread doesn't get enough follow ups on its own merits then it
should sink to page 2.

If the thread has important information for members maybe it should be put on float by the moderators for a few days.

Threads regarding political issues that require letters to congressmen and senators should be bumped or floated for as long as needed.
