S&W, Dan Wesson barrels

What are the similarities/differences between the current S&W two piece barrel and the Dan Wesson version?

I understand the S&W barrels are not interchangeable. Is this correct and why?

Smith did not make the two piece barrel to be user friendly (notice there are no barrels and shrouds for sale). To change the barrel you will need Smith's special tool that most likely won't be easy to obtain unless maybe you are qualified Smith armorer.
