This caliber has really caught my eye as of late. Don't have anything chambered in it though...yet.

Let's see what you guys got :)

RGS;

No can do. I'm in the very early stages of creating one of the world's rarest firearms, a left-hand bolt action 6.5 Swede. It'll be a custom gun with only the action being retained from the donor.

It's possible to get a Mauser G3 in LHB 6.5 X 55, but the ticket's gonna run around $4,000.00. I'd prefer to get a gun made for me, and probably some less expensvie too.

The donor is a Tikka standard length LHB. New 22" barrel, and ditch the synthetic stock. I haven't yet bought a blank for the stock maker to start on, but that'll be done shortly.

Over a decade ago, I bought my son his first hunting rifle for his 16th birthday. It was a Remington 700 Classic in 6.5 Swede. We've been reloading for it since then. I also fell in love with the cartridge & have been looking for a gun of my own since that time. I finally just bit the bullet & decided to have one made as finding something I could afford just wasn't gonna happen.

I've got an eye out for a Swedish Mauser. Ammo prices are a bit high, but then again so's everything lately. Figured I'd reload anyway.

I'd really like to use it for silhouettes at the local range. I just want a good rifle with open sights.

Vaarok: That is beautiful.

You know guys, if it's a 6,5x55 it does not have to be the M96... But they seem to get well together though ;)

I can't show them now, but I too am rather fond of this caliber. Light recoil and fairly accurate with 140's. I own three 6.5x55's which are hunting rifles.

1) Kimber sporterized 96 mauser, electoless nickle plated, synthetic stock.

2) Winchester M70, featherweight, walnut, blue.

3) Whitworth, mark x, maple, matte black.

Fairly accurate!!?? Might I suggest you do some more load development? Given no problems with the gun such as a lousy crown, etc., the 6.5 Swede is normally outstandingly accurate.

Since the Doc said I should not be shooting Magnum rifles for extended range sessions and matches anymore,,, I am thinking about selling off somethng and buying a Swede CG 63 for target work..

my little swede carbine loves to shoot Sierra 120's behind 3031...if I do MY part, with an old Burris 4x mini, it will group 1" or less at 100 yards with light recoil....shoots better than my model 7 in 7-08 which is ballistically equal for all intensive purposes....mine was made in 1907....

Absolutely my favorite caliber and this in my "dream rifle".

Try 45 grains of 4350 with a 120 grain ballistic tip. Close to 3000 FPS at the muzzle and sub 1" MOA at 100 yards. Great for groundhogs and deer alike.

If I had to keep one gun, this is it!

My M38, with a bragging target. It's really a frustrating gun for me to shoot. I know that the accuracy is there, but I just can't see those sights. May have to trade it in on a CZ.

Forgot to put in the specs... sorry.

Newer rifle is made by a Finnish custom gunsmith, mr.Jyri Jalonen (www.jalonen.fi , also english version available).
JJ-90 action and trigger, Lothar Walther 650mm barrel. Laminated stock by mr.Antero Lauronen (also in Finland - surprise...)

6,5x55 performance with factory loads is limited mainly because of the old swedish mauser actions widely in use with this caliber. Using stronger actions, the values start to look different.

Having said that - you just got to love those sweet M96's... :D

Yep! My Match rifle, built on a strong Winchester M70 action, likes to propel 139gr Lapua Scenars at 2950fps using Vihtavouri N160 and Lapua brass.

I hear ya CB. I wish that I had the time. As of now I'm 4 years away from retirement and hoping to do more shooting than teaching. On the other hand I've got 2 custom built tack drivers. One in 223 that loves 70 grain rockets and the other in 308 that spits 168's into nice little groups. If I do my part both are capable sub 1/2" groups @ 100 yards.

I've got a CG and did Bubba it to the extent that I had it tapped for a Lyman receiver sight---which helps a lot.

That CZ 550 looks REAL GOOD too. I just bought one in .308.

I have a CG-63 and a AG-42, both great looking and shooting rifles. I haven't been by in awhile, but a couple of months ago, Military Gun Supply in Fort Worth Texas, had about 60 CG-63's, CG-80's, and various M-96, and M-38's, so you might check with them and SARCO gets them in occassionally as well. I got my CG-63 from MGS, right before they were fixing to take it to Tulsa, and I got an exceptional price, because the front sight was broken, which I easily fixed. I have also been eyeing those M-41's from SAMCO, but they are a little out of my budget right now.

Float Pilot, Allan's Armory has a bunch. He describes them individually and has photos of each one on his site. I bought a K31 from him for a quite good price and excellent+ condition o which I am refinishing the stock right now (it is a K31 after all). I'd reccomend you check him out. Always has something interesting available.

DON'T DO IT! just get yourself some Mojo Peep Sites! They will improve your accuracy, and are completely reversible, so you don't have to worry about ruining its history.

Yes it does. I think I put the same stock on it that Kimber was using. Grandad had a walnut stock from Herter's on it, but it weighed a ton and was a little too chubby in the wrist for me.

I think Kimber was keeping the original barrels, the bolt handle was done differently, and they used Buehler style safeties.

I looked at the 63's at MGS in Ft. Worth a few months ago. Not bad, decent wood, vg metal, finish, and bores. Most have club medallions, stickers, and whatnot, which to me, adds a little something extra. Lots of them had micrometer sights of various types. Just remember the prices on the website may not be the actual price, depending on if you pick one up in person or have it shipped to a FFL.

Rabbit.

Hello all-
I own a Kimber sporterized version, it shoots great, it has a 3X9 Weaver scope and will put three shots in 2" at 200 yards.
I have not been able to disassemble the bolt as I cannot get the safety in the proper position to disassemble.
Any help on how to disassemble would be greatly appreciated.

I LIKE this rifle.

It is my first "plastic" after many years of oil-finish, great quality walnut.

Even when I was serving, I managed to keep wooden furniture on my 7.62 SLR - but that was never more than a tool.

Anyway, here it is:

The can is a T8 moderator and means I don't need to wear ear protection in the field.

took out my Carl Gustav 1916 made M96 today and tried two types of ammo.

Prvi Partsan 139gr soft point and surplus Hirtenburger 139gr FMJ.These are the best targets for each brand though the others were only slightly bigger in groups also.

Both ammo gave just about the same sizes. Both ammo is good IMO.Though the PP might have a slight edge.

Happy note is that before using different style targets and and doing more plinking than trying for sizes the rifle always shot high, but today with a 6 O'clock hold on a SR-1 target it shot point of aim center at 100yds,so Im happy about that.

Ynot,

Try this link:http://www.surplusrifle.com/mauserswedish/boltdisassembly/index.asp

I'll take some heat from the shactophiles (short action lovers), but I find it remarkable that the two, just possibly, most versatile cartridges ever developed are over 100 years old; The 6.5x55 Swede and the 30/06.

Just my opinion, of course......................
