Your favorite 10mm?

Hello, I have a Witness target, S&W 1006 and a SS Kimber 1911 10mm and need about 5 more.

Whats your favorite? I'm thinking about a Commander size, a Para, a G-29, 1076, and?

I wish CZ would bite the bullet and make one.

Thanks, Bren

Shoots .40S&W and 10MM - love it!

This is a representative 25 yard target :

DOH! How can I be so stupid to leave out the 610. :banghead:

Yours is no longer made so hange on to it, THEY ARE SWEET!

I have to look at a 4" 610 every day but am kinda holding out for the rare 3" or one like yours.

Heres my first time out with the Kimber at 25 yards. Haven't tricked it out yet but it's reliable and feels great.

I mostly shoot .40S&W in my 610 for targets. I had one of the scarce 5" 610s from 1990, which was too big for my tastes in a defensive handgun and not as good a target handgun as the 6.5 incher. So, it went bye-bye.

10MM makes the long barrelled 610 a decent hunting handgun. In 10MM, I have a small stash of the hot, early Norma loads, some discontinued Federal rounds developing approx. 700 ft-lb ME, and the old standby, the Winchester STHP.

Bye bye? :( Damn I would have said hello. :D

Don't you find the 10mm more accurate though? I'd be loading for that baby. So far my 1911 likes the Cor bon 150gr and 175 Silver tips best but even Blazer 200gr TMJ shoots pretty accurate.

Thanks for the info and the reminder. Bren

The 5" 610 balances well, I just didn't have much use for it which made it "expendable".

Inside 50 yards I don't see much difference in accuracy between .40S&W and 10MM. I find the 10MM to be flatter shooting further out, say between 50-100 yards.

Kimber makes a 10mm? Great, just when I was saving up for an AR-15, too.

Have you had a chance to run it through the paces yet? I've been closely eyeing the G20 but have heard of malufunctions (in many models) attributed to an "inherent inclination" of the 10mm to cause feed problems due to its long straight case.

Any problems from yours?

Favorite 10mms:

In no particular order:

* G-20 (which has never had ANY feeding problems, whether due to some mystical "inherent inclination" of the 10mm case or anything else);

* S&W 1076;

* S&W 1006 (w/ some minimalist custom work);

* S&W 610 (1st Gen w/ 6.5 barrel and fluted cylinder; very accurate, but not shot much);

* And, of course, this one:

Delta Elite #1
Glock 29 #2

I have a Razorback that was sent Friday, should have it Monday/Tuesday.

Also have a Para Ordnance P16-40 LTD that I will be converting to 10mm.

Once I get them I will see where they fall on the favorite scale.

I just added a second Delta in Blue, my other is Stainless.

As for future 10's, i really want to add a 1076 or 1066.

Listen to smarter people next time.

Though that would normally be an excellent rule-of-thumb, I've heard this from people I respect. With me, respect is something earned, thus the reason the comments weren't brushed aside.

I've always liked the idea a G20 and 175gr Silvertips, but have had my share of lemons (a couple of which these same fellows warned me about).
I've got time to research further anyway, there's an AR-15 out there that needs a home.

In order of preference....

G29 unholy power in a package that is comfortable to shoot

G20 very nice, just bigger than the G29

S&W1076 throws brass too far, grip doesn't suit me and is a
"crunchenticker"

Snowdog....
The 10mm feeds just fine. Both Glocks flawless with reloads from approx 800fps to 1200+fps with same springing. Only glitch I've created is with old brass from sloppier G29 chamber shot in the KKM match chamber barrel on my G20. Usually the 22# spring swages it in, but the worst won't chamber. Time for another thousand from Starline.:D

My favorite? The Glock 20. Why? It's the only one I've got that is 10 mm. Now, if I had it my way, an MP-5 in 10mm. :D Ideal weapon for the French-Indian War.

agtman, Victor tibbets is AWSOME and has the best logo I've ever seen. Very sweet! Is that the one in his gallery?

A buddy has a G-20 and it feeds just fine but slightly bulges brass which would make me nervous with hot loads. Don't know if they all do that.

denfoote, it IS hard to resist the size of the G-29!

Anyone have a Commander in 10mm? Thanks, Bren

I've heard this from people I respect.

They are also people who don't know what the hell they are talking about concerning the subject in question. I'm guessing their firsthand experience with the cartridge hovers around... zero? Or are they using a gun sample of one (1) to "prove" their point?

For one thing, the OAL of 10mm isn't any longer than .45 ACP or .38 Super. In fact, they are all about identical. But to know that would require actually looking at the cartridges in question. Yet you don't hear people crying about how the straight-walled, long-OAL .45 ACP or .38 Super are unreliable feeders.

In fact, I will go a step further and say that 10mm is MORE feed reliable by design than .45 ACP in a Glock or 1911 pattern firearm, because the centerline of the top cartridge in the magazine is higher for a 10mm than a .45 ACP can be, giving it a straighter shot into the chamber.

August 17, 2003, 05:04 PM
Your Witness is a CZ "clone" though CZ never made a 10mm.

I'd want a Delta Elite.

Bren
August 17, 2003, 05:30 PM
Dr.Rob, the Witness is actually simpler than a CZ because the hammer spring is short and hidden in the frame and the strut is smaller. Also, there is no flat spring/mag brake.

I like these changes but would like to have a strong CZ in 10mm.

If you took the name or image off the Delta, you would say it could use some work to make it better and a modern beavertail really helps the hand with hot loads. I passed one up for $550 once but might tinker with another if that price comes along again.

The pre II Kimbers in 40 are they way to go IMO because of the modern controls good fit, and ramped barrel for a supported chamber. Bren

Snowdog,

I have not had any problem with this one so far. I have just put a few hundred rounds through it, though. Mostly Win Silvertips, also a few 200 grain FMJ Blazers and some 180 Grain FMJ Remington UMC. Seems to shoot fine so far.

Thanks. I've really enjoyed shooting this Delta.

Actually, the Delta pictured in Vic Tibbets' "Photo Gallery" belongs to a poster named Bowhunter, IIRC.

If you're interested, I believe he posted a detailed description of the work Vic did and the parts used over on Pistolsmith.com. He also may have done a short Range Report too, but you'd have to do a Search over there.

A lot of people with for a 10mm from CZ. The Witness is the closest to one you will ever see. I'm now looking at buying a Glock 20. Don't know if they
pinch or sting your finger with hot loads like my .40 glock did.

Due to it's heavy steel frame, the Witness has light recoil. Some say the
G20 has low recoil. The only large frame Glock that i have shot is a G30.
Even with +P loads the recoil was very nice. I make note that the Glock
20 doesn't use a double recoil spring. I don't want a light, hard kicking
pistol.

How many of you have killed deer or black bear with your TEN?

Bren
August 18, 2003, 12:50 AM
agntman, I'll have to nose around there some more, saw yours in the gallery. :D

CZF, the 1006 is a soft shooter, I like the 1911 platform the best and they are fine recoil wise. The Wtness 10 with ports seems to have less recoil than the 45 without and I've shot them side by side. All the full size guns are pretty soft to shoot and I still don't understad when I hear about arm wrenching recoil because to me a 357 snub has twice the punch but I like them too. :p

The Para would be the other high cap option. Bren

Your 10 mm Kung fu is very strong, I bow in humble respect of your much superior collection....but you are lacking a HK MP5-10mm, or a 1928 Thompson 10mm, but that duo is the holy grail for us, the followers of the 10 mm

:what:

NordicG3K
August 19, 2003, 08:57 PM
Ah yes, the MP5/10! Definately the "Holy Grail" of 10mms. Apparently it is possible to obtain one. All you have to do is find a demilled .40 or 10mm MP5, pick up a few of the pseudo-legal (unmarked) 30-round mags, find a cheap HK94 receiver, and hand it all over along with a thick wad of cash to a good HK smith like Murbach or Ralph at RTDS and 12+ months later you've got yourself an MP5/10! It definately would be cool, but I think I'd opt for a couple Bren Tens, a handful of Deltas or a bag of Glock 20/29s.

What I would really like to see is a few other gun makers adding the 10mm to their line-up. I'd love an HKUSP, both full-sized and compact, in 10mm. Another hot one would be a 10mm Sig P220!

I am a fan of forearm bull pup pistols, I have one in .223 (Bushmaster blaster from the 70's), now a 10mm in a bull pup config, like the P90(?) with inline mag oh say 25-50 round ..... with a 8-10" ...ok I'm waking up, dreaming to much....

Speaking of round count: I have two G20's and the oldest now has almost 25,000 rounds through it! It is amazing how many rounds you can shoot up (12,500 in the last six months) when you own an ammunition company!

Back when I was a wee lad of 21 back in a misty hazy '91 or so, I read a short article in one of the gun rags about the super duper new killem' all 10mm and it's adoption by the FBI in the guise of the S&W 1076.

Well of course I had to have one.

But I couldn't get the *actual* FBI model withOUT the magazine disconnect, so I settled for the 1006.

That lasted a year when in a fit of morose indecision I decided that I needed to buy groceries more than I needed the 1006.

Fast forward to 2000 when the FBI decided that the 1076 may not have been the best choice for their weak wristed agents, and suddenly the market was flooded with surplus FBI 1076s... enter Bill Hick's Distributors and my one shining chance to finally fulfill my dreams of mall ninjadom FBI tacticallity. I had my FBI 1076.

All has been roses since then.

And peace is restored to the universe. I really like the 10mm.

nvrquit
August 20, 2003, 04:57 PM
...is a Sig P220. Not sure if I'll spring for the ST or try to see if the alloy frame can take the stresses of the 10mm. Time and, of course, money, will make that decision for me.

The industry is beginning to come around slowly. Dan Wesson, Kimber... who might be next. I think we(the 10mm community that is) should continue to chip away at S&W for the re-introduction of the 10xx line-up or possibly a "Value line" entry. Additionally, why not a single stack and compact models from Glock. The single stack could easily be 8 or 9 rounds with a slide length intermediate to that of the G20/G29's and the same slide would then be used on the compact wide frame. Hmmm, G10/G11 anyone?

For me, eventually a full size Tan Witness will become an addition(but I WON'T even think about ever using EAA as a servicing agent!). Just can't pass up a CZ type frame in 10mm!

NordicG3K,
The collection is truly impressive and you are so in tune with the "force"(it is not the dark side, it's seeing the light[not a train at the end of you know]). You need a CCU to keep the Oly company, as it's beginning to get a complex in the land of all those pistols!

MCNETT,
Outstanding on the DoubleTap situation! Orders to be placed, of that there is no doubt.
Of course, if you tire of testing new ammo types, I'm sure there are plenty of volunteers to be available from the 10mm brethren.
