A friend of mine has a German Luger he says was produced in 1938 with a serial number of 2708. He says it is in fairly good condition. I haven't actually seen the gun. Can anyone give me a rough value (I know these things can range into the thousands) or at least point me in the right direction? Thanks.

The right direction is a minute description with multiple good pictures.
Post here and at Lugerforum.com
Germany was rearming and building a LOT of guns in 1938, John Walter says 114,000 Lugers alone. "Fairly good condition" usually means "in one piece." Rough estimate of value $800, +/- about 1000%

Need pictures. Does it have any Toggle Identification; DWM, Simons & Co., Swiss, Mauser, Krieghoff, Vickers? Then their are many variations of each.
As An example the Kriegorhoff 1938 9mm 4" barrel shows $4,500 graded @ 98%, $3,750 @ 95%, $3,150 @ 90% and $2,400 @ 80%.
Could be worth $$$ Thousands.
