It's gunshow time in Manila, and the thing is, I know I've been yapping about getting my first slabside ever since the TFL days. Well, I think I got over the edge this time.
As usual, the show was awash with overpriced whateverumaycallit 1911-types :D:D:D. But one caught my eye... :scrutiny:
It's a Peters Stahl custom built 1911, not that with the linkless configuration. Just that plain jane, hi-cap (13 rds) 45 acp. assembled with all original PS parts. Just perfect for IPSC standard that I'm going to use it for
The finish was superb. I mean, no machining marks could be seen. The barrel-link-bushing-slide lockup were, how can I say it... snugly fit. It has a guide rod, though thinner than usual, and there were some rust spots on the extended slide lock. What blows me away is that I can grip it comfortably, not blocky as the other brands would feel, maybe due to its more than usual rounding at the front edges of the grip, which is modestly serrated BTW. The trigger was excellent! Hardly any take-up and broke, to my estimation, about 4-5 lbs.
What annoys me is the grip safety, it's like a milspec but turned upwards, hurts to grip higher. It's got to go... :(
I also noticed a difference in coloration at the slide's release notch, maybe this is what I've read about a hardened slide notch to prevent wear from its pounding against the slide release.
I arranged for the dismantling of the unit next Saturday, so I could inspect the internals. Any tips on what to look out for would be greatly appreciated. The unit's standard price is nearly $860, which had been reduced to $680. (I'd caution on immediately comparing with stateside prices, as we're usually burdened with heavy tariffs, as much as 50% of what you pay there. :( ) For comparison, a series 80 Colt single stack costs $950, a USP $1000, BUL M5 at $1250, Para Ord nearly $1300, and Norinco's $250-300.
Would appreciate your inputs re Peters Stahl's materials quality (is it forged or cast?). Don't ask me to do a search, I already did and only Omegas came up.
