Daewoo .223 semi-autos - any feedback?

Hi, folks. Does anyone here own the Daewoo semi-auto rifle in .223? I understand it's like an AR-15 with a gas piston. I know very little about them, and want to learn more (possible deal in the works). Could I have some feedback and links from those who know more about them?
Many thanks.

I have a pre-ban in K2 configuration. All I can say is......I LOVE IT! :)
I have never experience a malfunction of any kind. Its also very accurate and it seems to have a better balance compared to my AR's, IMO. Its kinda like a cross breed of FN FNC and AR15. My only worry is parts availability if something breaks, for this reason, I don't shoot it that much anymore.

I thought Daewoo's were kinda like Kia's, or Hundai's....
They're so cheap, you just drive them 'til they break and leave them on the side of the road and go buy another one ;)
Seriously, I know a couple people who've owned them and I never heard any complaints......

Try this (http://www.thehighroad.org/search.php?action=showresults&searchid=296028&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) and this. (http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/search.php?action=showresults&searchid=67028&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending)
Above are the results of searches of the rifle forums of THR and TFL. I don't know if you've already done them, but everything I've seen at THR and TFL has been positive, with the caveat that spare parts are hard to find.

I shot one, but I don't know what model it was.
I personally thought the fit and feel of it was far better than any M4 I've shot. The TFL/THR member who owns it also hates the AR15, but loves his Daiwoo.

I've got a K2. It rocks.I'd much rather have it than an AR. It's got a cleaner, more reliable, adjustable gas system, a reciprocating bolt handle, no spring in the buttstock, an very good trigger, plus a control set-up nearly identical to the AR (and it uses AR mags).

I have a pre-ban K-2. When I bought it, I was actually wanting a CAR-15 and the dealer didn't have one in stock. I'm glad I got the K-2 instead. I won't have anything to do with an AR now. Since I bought it in 1996 it hasn't gagged once. Even with snow and ice on the bolt and inside the action (it's slung across my back while wolf hunting on a snowmachine) it fires when the trigger is pressed. With an AK/SKS type gas system it is ultra reliable. It also keeps the junk out of the breech area (the M-16's design flaw) and is easy to maintain. Left hander friendly it throws brass forward at about a 15 degree angle, and controls are similarly placed and shaped like an AR. Accuracy is as good as or better than an AR.
Couple of weak points I've found; The front sight is very well protected, but has a tendency to fade fast with disappearing light making optical or electronic sights necessary. The other weak point is not in design but legislation. Only about 5000 of these rifle were imported before the ban:banghead: and parts breakage makes finding replacements difficult. The death of the AWB would fix the problem.
If I were to outfit an army that needed a reliable rifle with AR compatability for mags and ammo, the Daewoo would be my first choice.
I'm willing to bet that if these rifles were being used in the Big Sandbox they would show to be much more reliable than the M-4s/16s.

My friends like theirs too.... their only complaint is that they accept AR mags (in their opinion, one weak point of the AR system).

I agree about the relative flimsiness of the AR mags, but I still prefer using them over having to buy proprietary (that is, rare and expensive) mags.

rare, and expensive, and 5 or 10-round only. I personally want to get either a Daewoo or AR-180B - basically the same animal - haven't decided which - I'll wait to see if the HDR ban sunsets successfully (what's an AWB? - don't use the bogus words of the antis, folks). Prolly get a K2 at that point - having a folding stock might be neat, and I don't think these are available for the AR180B. BTW, is there an integral rail on the Daewoo? How does one mount optics on it? Thanks.

Peter,
I had the DR200. Only fired it a few times, but no, repeat, no problems. Was afraid of no parts availability, and so traded it for a Glock 24.

There isn't an integral rail on the K2, but the receivers are all drilled and tapped for rails form the factory. I've seen rails at gun shows for them. They're just plain mounting rails with a pair of holes for mounting on the receiver. You can see a photo of a DR-200 with a rail and scope here: http://www.survival.com.mx/gunrack/daewoo_aimpoint.html
