I was just wondering if anyone has come across a really good source for ideally FMJ 45acp 230g and 9mm 115g? I know it's all pretty high, but I've just gotten started and wanted to make sure I got the best prices before I go ordering stuff. Eventually, I'll probably cast, but I don't have the time right now.

It seems like the lowest I've found on 1,000 of 45s is about $126 shipped.

As for 9mm, well, I haven't actually looked that much yet.

What are the current *best* prices out there? Anyone found it for cheaper than I listed? What about 9mm?

FMJ's are pretty expensive. I use 200 grain cast lead from KEAD.

Well, that's sort of what I was looking for. It's not too bad.

The only thing with lead is I don't like shooting it indoors and it's a little smokey, but it's fine for plinking.

So does anyone else have some sources such as what Rob posted?

I don't believe it's the lead that is smokey, but rather the lube on the bullets and the type of powder. I could be wrong.

I reload 9mm and prefer 124 gr FMJ. I just bought 500 from Midway for around $50. Six months ago I paid $34. It's the times.

Best prices I've seen http://www.precisionbullets.com/ These work just as well as FMJ in my guns. The polymer coating is extremely tough no barrel leading or lead exposure during shooting. Prices are with shipping.

That kead bullet is probably the cheapest in the U.S. Jacketed bullets are going to be tough to find for cheap. Midway does have a special on certain bullets from time to time. I' bought some 200grn 45 swc's from cheycast for 75 bucks a thousand just recently. Oregon trail 'lazercast' bullets are alittle more expensive and I like the finish of the bullet. If you're ready for a new reloading tool Hornaday offers you one thousand bullets as a perk when you buy one of theirs. One other thing you might try is going to a gun show near your home. I often find great deals on products. It's also a great way to buy primers at a very good price and not pay a hazard fee for shipping. Example, I paid 107 +tax (Ca.) and was out the door with a box of 5000 Win large pistol primers. Google Precision Delta for jacketed bullets, look at Montana Gold, and well Kead bullets...prices are nice but he is very slow at delivery!

Since this is my very first post on this site I'd like to share with some that might not have thought about it........To fire 5 or six rounds of jacketed bullets through your gun at the end of a day of shooting lead. Really helps your clean up when you get home.
This helps for some, I've heard. For me, for some reason, it doesn't. What it does for me is to burnish that lead right onto the barrel nice and smooth. Takes all day to get it off. Lewis Lead Remover, brushes, lots of scrubbing to get it off.

Beats the heck out of me why.

Three words... cream of wheat (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=342017&highlight=wheat)!

So far so good after a couple of months of using it. I'd suggest considering c.o.w. anyway. My M.O. is to make perhaps a box of 50 cream of wheat rounds when I do a big run of lead rounds, and then to run about 15-20 of them through each gun at the end of the range session. I really like these when shooting home-cast boolits in my rifles, this has let me load up I think some pretty stout lead rounds without any leading at all. I suspect that c.o.w. degrades the accuracy quite a bit (I'm still tinkering and verifying it's not an undersize boolit issue) but there's a lot of potential here!

I finally got my chronograph last week and intend to try that science experiment to see if there's anything to the internet rumor about cream of wheat rounds getting progressively "hotter" over a period of months. Supposedly has something to do with perhaps the c.o.w. gradually absorbing solvents from the smokeless powder and making its burn rate faster. I intend to make a bunch of them, and then shoot maybe 5 or 10 each month and chrono them to see if they get faster as time goes by.
