If you are interested in a detailed account of the subject, read the books More Guns, Less Crime: Understanding Crime and Gun Control Laws and The Bias Against Guns: Why Almost Everything You've Heard About Gun Control Is Wrong by John Lott.
Plus the sites:
Dave Kopel (http://www.davekopel.org/kopel.htm)
Neal Knox (http://www.nealknox.com/)
GunCite (http://www.guncite.com/)
SCOPE: Shooters' Committee On Political Education (http://scopeny.org/index.html)
And when you get done with that, there are about 1000+ more sites to check out with good info. :)

Most state laws can be found from www.state.xx.us, where xx is your state abbreviation.
The U.S. Code can be found at
http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/
or

Start here for federal issues. Basically for FFL holders, information is still good to know even if you have ne desire for an FFL.
ATF and packing.org should get you started with laws in place. Kopel, et al will keep you abreast (as will the NRA site) of upcoming new legislation which affects gun ownership. Don't forget Halbrook or Kates writings.
Adios
