I have a TC hawken that a friend owned and stored for about 20 years with out cleaning it after he last shot it. It is a 50 cal and the bore is rusted. I have put wd40 down it and brushed it and run patches through but the bore still looks like it has spots of rust or ?. Is there any thing that can be done to possible bring this barrel back to shootable or is it just a matter of getting a new barrel from tc? Thanks Bill :uhoh:

Try lapping it with JB Bore Paste.

Use a bronze bore brush with a patch wrapped around it and lots of elbow grease.

Keep changing patches as they wear out & get loose.

It will take out whatever will come out, without harming the barrel.

It may still look bad, but more then likely will shoot just fine.

All comes to worse, you can send it to Bobby Hoyt (Der Freischutz Shoppe) and have him reline the barrel.

Get one of these Green Mountain replacement barrels:

It'll save you a lot of futzing around, and by all accounts these barrels are top notch.

By the way; there is a black powder section here on THR. Post your question over there too, and I bet you get the same suggestion, along with several good ones... ;)
