I bought this knife about 2 months ago. I am no knife aficionado, but I know to stay away from the $5 plastic super mall-ninja stuff, unless you're planning on using it to pry open oysters. BAT, the knife is the one on the bottom.

I wouldn't go shucking any oysters with a $5 knife unless I had eye protection.

$8 isn't that far from $5. Overall the design is good but the steel isn't the best tho' should be fine for EDC use like opening boxes & cutting string.

well for $8.00 it was a good deal not bad gerber makes good knives of course it's not a benchmade or spyderco but for the money that is one hell of a deal :evil::evil::evil::evil::D:D:D:D

I have owned a few gerber knives and have liked them all. I only broke one and that was doing something stupid that i dont care to talk about :(

Id say if you could pick one up for under 10 your doing pretty well, however if you really want I would spend 50 on a spyderco delica and call it done.

Gerber stuff (all of it - knives, saws, etc.) is borderline JUNK, compared to what they used to be, and compared to their modern competitors with similar price points like Spyderco, Kershaw, & CRKT.

BUT, it's an $8 knife - sure, it is worth that. It will perform ok with light use. Just don't expect to use it hard and not have it break.

I see. It has (and will be) used mainly for cutting jewelry cord/fishing line, starting the cut on oranges, and other soft-skinned fare, and (God forbid I ever have to), for defense.

I had a Gerber Mini Paraframe (the knives you show are the Paraframe and Mini Paraframe) and loved it. I currently carry a Gerber Evo. Gerber is not up to Benchmade standards, but it is not junk in any sense of the word either. My Evo can be sharpened up enough to shave hair, and it will hold that edge.

I have one I keep on me. Larger one with no serrations. That is a low price. It holds an edge OK. I had to remove a lot of metal from the blade to thin it near the edge. It is a little tricky to get a razor edge on it though. The screws will need tightening periodically. It has good 1 handed opening/closing with a little lube. It is light & thin.
Overall I like the knife for the money spent. If it got lost or consfiscated it would not ruin my week.

I bought a Gerber EZ-Out knife 5 or 6 years ago. It was scary sharp when I first got it (now it's just kind of sharp) and it held its edge really well. A couple of years later, after they were bought out by Fiskars, I bought another EZ-Out for my father. It looked identical, but wasn't nearly as sharp initially, and it doesn't hold an edge as well. He still loves it, but it's not as good a knife as mine even though it is the exact same model.

But for $8 you can't possibly go wrong.

If it was the mini-paraframe, that's an average price. However, if it was a Paraframe, full size Paraframe, that you got, you got a great deal.
I do not agree that the Chinese made Gerbers are junk. I like them, they perform well.
Sure, they aren't Kershaws or Benchmades, but they do cut well, are priced well, and are available at Target.

Picked up a Gerber Torch1 at the SHOT SHOW for $20...decent little Hinderer designed flipper , blade steel aint the greatest , but for $20 , it flips well and locks up solid.
and concealed carry legal here with a 2.7" blade. :)

I own two Gerbers -- a Multiplier that I was issued, and an EZOut I found on one of the FOBs I was on. EZOut is in an emergency kit, and the Multiplier is in my desk at work, sort of the "office toolkit". Multiplier has always done good duty, and more comfortable to use than a leatherman. Got both for the right price!!

I own one Gerber. Well not really ,my fiance took it for her own...you know "Just in case". It is an early USA made EZ-OUT ATS-34 steel, good knife.
