It's worth what you're willing to pay/have paid for it.

It's set up for PPC competition, so you'd probably get better offers from local shooters in that sport.

HP is Home Protection.

Don't worry, azn505, we understand what you're asking. Don't worry about the birds.

Nice revolver. As you know, it's for competition. Since it's not a regular production handgun, it mostly has value to a special segment of shooters.

Take it to a range and shoot it to see how you like it. It may or may not be a good home defense weapon for you. Only you can tell that for sure.

Apex 6" slab side barrel, front and rear adjustable sight, trigger stop
in the trigger, around a 3.5# SA trigger pull. Still kicking my self for selling my Bill Davis Ruger Security Six SS set up the same way as yours and my Bill Davis Couger= Ruger Security Six frame 6" Colt Python barrel.
Your gun is a shooter and she will out shoot you, enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I had mine best group was six dead center and dime covered all the shots.

It is a great revolver for shooting games. Not knowing how it is set up, it might be picky on what brand of ammunition it will fire with. Many revolvers set up for fast DA shooting games will only functin with federal ammo or Federal Primers if your reloading. They have easy to ignite primers.
Ask your Dad what he did with it and what he shot in it.
That type of revolver was highly prized thirty years ago. Neat piece of history. Would be fun to shoot at a plate match.

My dad had one of these built my a local smith (now long gone) in the 70s. He used a brand new S&W M10 and a round Douglas barrel with bomars on top. It is now in my possession. Typical performance from this gun is one hole groups measuring less than an inch at 50 feet. It's a really nice gun. I bought it from him when his interest in revolvers waned. I don't shoot it much but I love it.

Curious.... why do you want to know what it's worth?

oh my......10/22's are a dime a dozen or less........ it's valuable enough to take REAL good care of it or sell it to someone who will. Though as you age.... you'd regret that.

Don't know about you, but I take care of my .22s just like I care for my centerfires....

I do also orionengnr..... but his statement warrants a response

"I just want to know how much its worth so i know what i have if its real valuable maybe will take care of it more than say a regualr ol 10/22 rifle that i shoot all the time".

A "regular ol 10/22" is just not in the same league in a value sense.

A gun that is not accurate is worth s**t. Common wisdom says minimum caliber for personal defense is .38 special.

Your gun should be accurate and is of the minimum required caliber for your intended use, plus your father gave it to you. For the aforementioned reasons, your gun is priceless:), but shoot it enough to be quick and accurate with it. Get some firearms personal defense training. Maintain your proficiency with regular practice. Give this gun reasonable care, as you would any valuable gun.

Don't know how you take care of your 10/22, but a fine PPC revolver needs to be fed lots and lots of mild target loads and cleaned/lubed after every range session, but that's just me.

BTW, congratulations. That is one fine PPC revolver and IMHO will last you more than a lifetime.

This is a priceless artifact of your family history; care for it well. You will understand better at about age 40-something. If you let it get away, someday you will likely be willing to pay ten times its book value to get it back.

As your just interested in in current value, check out GUNBROKER.com ? for PPC or target revolvers. Firearms like yours turn up several times a month and you can get a decent idea of what you can sell yours for.

Oh yeah. Good rep to this day.

Me...I'd be all too tempted to stick smaller grips on, put a slightly stronger mainspring in and use this as a CCW piece :). You can find fanny packs that big :). Betcha it'll shoot Speer 135gr 38+P almost as well as match wadcutters...those tend to group quite well for a defensive load.

Mr. Davis is one of the best revolversmiths to ever walk the earth. You have a treasure.
