I am a member of a Christian outdoors ministry called Mission Outdoors here in Texas. I am trying to get an active black powder group at the shoots each month. We encourage folks to come out for a day of shooting rifles, pistols, bows, etc and include a free lunch and a devotional. We had 198 visitors this month. I was the only one there with a black powder rifle for them to shoot. I loaded that .50 cal Kentucky flintlock 100 times! What I need are more rifles to help the process go faster. If anyone has an old percussion or flinter sitting in the closet or gun rack that hasn't been used in a while, why not donate it to our organization for kids to use? We will provide a tax deductible reciept for you, too. Thanks for your time and God bless.

Don't be alarmed by the page with the prices. Those prices are for renting out the place and the equipment for a private party. It is the only other way that we can get the funding (besides memberships) that allows us to let the kids shoot free.

Thanks, brother. The wind was whipping like crazy and my flint was worn so there were a lot of non-sparking shots. The looks on the kids faces when they would brace for the recoil and flinch forward and the rifle wouldn't go off. Then when I got everything right and it did, they were suprised. One girl about 16 wanted to shoot after her boyfriend. I tol dher it was going to kick as hard as his did. Thing was I only loaded 30 grains, and she almost fell over forward leaning into the recoil.:D

Yeah, I'm over there too, got a lot of flack for it too why in the world would they give you flack!? there is no reason to harass a person trying to help other people. i supose they might think god and firearms don't mix. why? guns, in a good persons hands, are good. guns in a bad persons hands, are bad. it is not the gun that is the problem, it is the person holding it. i fail to see why the rest of this country does not recognise this. if i lived anywhere near you, i would come down and help out. but the plane fare would be a little pricey! keep up the good work!

RB; It wasn’t your wording that got someone's panties in a bind. It was them—not you.

Somewhere right here there is a great, big, political lesson, but I'll leave it up to others to articulate it.

Good to know you're teaching about anticipation. When I was a wee lad a friend brought over a large muzzloading caplock rifle. We played around with it for a few days and determined that it wasn't accurate enough to hit a barn.

Fast-forward 40 years; Now I know exactly what was happening. We were flinching like nervous cats. I always use dry-fire exercises to teach students about that-- several times in a lesson. Without fail, the first live shot after doing some dry firing is a good hit.

All I got is a couple cap-n-ball pistols, but this sound like a good program y'all got running. Maybe one day when I am old enough to have money I will be able to help stuff like this out. Keep up the good work!

Thanks and blessings to all that helped me out with materials. We are up and going strong, so I am going to end this plea. We have about 8 rifles now and several volunteers helping out.

Just as an FYI, CVA used to sell factory refurbs to non-profits for REAL cheap...anybody conducting any sort of BP shooting/training was eligible, and the prices were extremely low, $25-$30 per rifle.....you might give them a call, as several like rifles sure would make your day go better.
