Surefire -- How Do You Carry ???

I currently carry my Surefire E1 with its tailcap LOCKED.
I was thinking that in case I needed my Surefire in an immediate defensive situation, it would not be easy to use as I would have to unlocked first.
I carry my Surefire clipped to my pocket, and I keep it in the tailcap locked position to prevent it from turning on accidentally.
Is this really needed?
Can I safely keep my Surefire in the UNLOCKED tailcap position and not have to worry about accidentally turning the light on (when I sit down, for example)?

Any opinions?
Thanks...

IMO, no. I did that and my battery was dead the next time I tried to use it. These lights are great, carrying them is an issue. I carry mine loose in my pocket with the tail cap locked.
I suppose if I was carrying a gun, at night, I would do exactly what you are doing with the tail cap unlocked. As it is, I carry mine all the time but mainly use it at work. For my job, it works OK, although I would like to have a nice holder for my belt.

I have the E2 Executive and carry it each day with the pocket clip and don't have a problem with the light coming on in my pocket. My wife said she bet that a lot of people in NY wished they had a light like it during the blackout. Just the ticket to find your way out of a dark subway tunnel

I carry a Streamlight Scorpion down in my front pocket. Its doesnt come on, but then again, its switch is in the bottom of the barrel and not exposed.

Yeah, I carry either my L4 or A2 clipped in my pocket, with it ready to go and have never had a problem of 'accidental discharge', the only time I really use my lockout is when I put in luggage when on travel.

Clipped to my left front or butt pocket (depends if I am carrying a BUG) on weekends and after hours, sits in my butt pocket, tip up, next to my wallet so it doesn't flop around on hours. CCW Surefire, baby.

Carry an old 'Laser Products' SureFire 6P in the 'cellphone' pocket of the 5.11s. Also carry a G2, bouncing around in a cargo pocket with no lock out, no problem. I think the problems with unintentional activation come when there's a bunch of other stuff crammed in the same pocket. The pocket clip on some models helps with this by keeping the tail cap from coming in contact with all that other stuff.

I have a G2 and E2.
The G2 is my house light. It stays on the night table next to my pistol.
E2 stays in the truck or goes in my front pocket when needed.

E2e in left rear pocket, unlocked.
Yes, I have had instances where the light has come on. Usually while driving, I notice some heat in the relevant body part area. :) That's a clue for me to pull over and check the light.
IMHO I'd rather have it unlocked (and have to deal with replacement batteries more frequently). If it's locked, it may not work when you need it quickly. With batteries going at $15 per dozen on Surefire.com, the battery replacement issue isn't much of a cost decision.
