I belong to the Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club. Our Club has an active program to familiarize the general public in the safe use of handguns and in training for Concealed Carry Permitting. With violent crime up 15% in the first quarter of 2008 we have alot more people attending. A disproportionate percentage of attendees are older females from the high crime areas of Charlotte. We've received a reasonably good airing in local TV news.
Now our Club is taking another step in a proactive approach to supporting our Second Amendment rights.
Here is the stated purpose in the announcement:
The Charlotte Rifle & Pistol Club, which has provided firearms enthusiasts and sportspeople safety skills and a place to shoot since 1913, is inviting media representatives and elected officials to an afternoon of shooting and discussion about what the Second Amendment means to the men and women of the club. The seminar comes as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to announce, possibly by the end of June, its decision in the case of D.C. v. Heller, which may determine that a firearm ban is an unconstitutional infringement of the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, and to interpret the Second Amendment as protecting an individual right to possess firearms for private use.
The meeting is tomorrow, Friday, May 9, 2008. I will report back on how the seminar goes....
