I'm starting a Counter-Strike clan for THR. I don't have a server but hopefully we can get one at some later time. Any THR'ers are welcome to join. Just put [THR] in front of your name. For right now, we can play on Wombat's CS server (not affiliated with me, just a coincidence) whose IP is 64.243.181.152:27015.

If we get enough people in then I can get more serious about it and try to get a server and put up a website. Reply if you're in.

Yes, this is gun related, CS is a tactical first person shooter multiplayer game.

CS is a tactical first person shooter multiplayer game.Yes, but not a very realistic one. ;)

But, what the heck, I'm in.

Warning: I suck at CS.

Was anything ever done to reduce the amount of cheats used in CS?

While I was in graduate school I saw alot of fights at the local "PC Shack" were all the kids played.....

CS is so 1999 ;)

I do miss a good round of Italy now and then, though.

I'm in. with the caveat that we have to use teamwork and be tactical.

Count me in. I've played for 2 or 3 years or so. Not realistic but soooo fun. (not good for grades though)

:D

CS was a lot of fun. I played for a couple of years and got pretty good. I never minded cheating, as cheaters got kicked pretty quick from the servers I played.

I found, though, that I didn't have time for the "real" things in my life, because CS was taking up ALL my spare time. I quit and haven't looked back. I don't miss it at all.

One thing on the cheats. I liked the game and had no desire to cheat, so I never even looked into what cheats were available, until my last day. I went and downloaded a cheat called OBD or some such. It was really cool. You could see through walls and auto aim, etc.

I played on one server most of the time, so lots of regulars knew me. Their reaction was funny. Comments like "you're having a really good day", etc. I admitted to cheating and told them all goodbye. It was a great way to go out.

There's some momentum/discussion about a [THR] clan/scrimmage thingy happening in America's Army...which may be a little more fitting a game for us than CS.

I hopped into Wombat's server, there was nobody there.

America's Army is a buggy POS.. great concept, but it has graphics issues, and it won't run behind my router.

I just downloaded the latest version of CS a few days ago. I haven't played it since version 1.1 or thereabouts.
Once I get relocated back to the Pacific Northwest and have a decent connection, I'll join in.
I play a lot of DoD right now. My moniker there is Sarge{HPR}. See you around.

I usually play about 2 hours a day with some friends. I was wondering if this would be for CS 1.5 or 1.6? I have both so it doesn't matter to me.

Oh and if anyone ever plays with a Silent_Mike that might be me.

My friends are:
Silent_Killer
Silent_Bob
Silent_Wookie

We aren't a clan just like to make people think we are.

Oh and I am assuming I will be paying some type of money if I join? But for now if its ok I will change my name to [THR]5ptdeerhunter

Even though I'm a mediocre player (and that's a bit generous) I stepped into the Wombat server (Hu Jian is my playing name) a couple of times yesterday and no one was there from THR. I even asked once and they just said "THR? Never heard of it," or something to that effect. What times are you guys usually on? I'll try and stop in tonight between going to the dinner and my trip to the grocery store, not sure what time.

Haven't played CS in probably over a year. Only games on my PC right now are Day of Defeat (http://www.dayofdefeat.com/) and Natural Selection (www.natural-selection.org). NS 2.0 just came out, so any game time I get goes to that.

I guess I'll download CS tonight, and give it a go later this week. My game name is as seen here. :)

I bought half-life platinum pack a year or more ago. When I got some new computer stuff, it stopped working right. Just upgraded again. Might try it again so we can play. Main problem is I like Yuri's Revenge too much and I just got in Raven Shield tonight. Haven't even played it yet!

Okay!
The clan is officially started. I am now [THR] Blackhawk. Sorry to the real High Roader Blackhawk. Blackhawk has been my CS name even before I was on TFL. Wombats Server can be deserted at times, but in the evening it usually has several people playing. I use HLSW (Half-life server watch), which helps you get on to whatever server you want. Just type in the IP and you've got the server stats and can connect. If the server is full, just wait and when there is an empty slot you're the first in line. Free download here (http://www.hlsw.org/?language=English). See y'all there.

Warning: I am REALLY bad at it.

Hmmm... I just got on Wombat's server, and they have huch less people than usual. I really don't know what's going on. In a month or two, we can play on the PTT clan server, which is my favorite server, but they are down for a few months. But by the end of September they should be up again. If you know of any good servers that usually have many people playing, please post them.

As far as our own server, I'm not really in the right financial situation to get one, nor would I know how to go about setting one up/ keeping it maintained.

I was on the Wombat server for a pretty good while tonight and didn't see any other THR people. Pretty good game going except they have a few maps I'm not at all familiar with.

If I'm not playing there then I usually play here:
66.196.12.47:27015
It's Dmerz's Domain. I started playing there because it's a local server. There's usually a good game going there and I really like their map cycle. Every once in a while people get an urge to just clown around and not really play but normally it's good.

I don't think I can play on the server anymore. I heard it was fun to cheat so I tried it yesterday. I got kicked before I spawned and now I can't join 85% of the servers because I was caught. This will be in effect until 2-17-04. Oh well it was fun to try. At least I can still play on the servers with out anti cheat stuff.

Black92LX
August 21, 2003, 08:24 AM
never cheated and never will. just get a new Key Card number and you won't be banned anylonger. The wombat server wasn't working for awhile last night.

Methinks we should set up some kinda 'CS appointment' for the Wombat server so we can actually play together. :)

So anybody have any suggestions for a time?

New server, new server everyone! BAY clan server is 216.93.178.157:27015

If we want less people we can go to wombat's, but for normal play let's just go here. A'ight? Hope to see y'all there.

There's actually a pretty good server by the name of TrU klan or something like it. I'm not in the clan, but it's a good server in regards to kicking cheaters and lag. I'll put [THR] tags on. My name (I'm a stupid teen ager) is The Master Baiter. If any of you have a problem with me representing THR that way I can change it no sweat. If you don't have a problem with it, I'll just nod approvingly and say I'm pretty darn clever.

Count me in, but I suck. I'm usually Chingado, but I'll be [THR] Chingado this time. I'll try to post my usual server if I can get the IP; it's Virginia Recon Team.

I havent bothered to read the post in its entirety, but i have a server we could use for this clan. at the moment it needs a ram upgrade, but past that its good to go, it was even bought for this specific purpose by the lan group i hang with. i'll let ya know when its up and running, i really need a faster connection to make it really good though, comcast has mediocre d/l and semi-pathetic u/l

I've got a nice server that could be used if someone local can get it on a fast connection, it's a dual PIII 733 with 512MB of RAM and 54GB on RAID V

Where do you live? I've got cable...

illuminatus99
August 31, 2003, 02:00 PM
I'm in WA, cable is only good for about 4 players though, after that everyone's ping times start suffering because there's not enough upload bandwidth.

Nightfall
August 31, 2003, 02:50 PM
Being on 56k (not by choice, trust me), I have to be picky about my server choices. So chances are, if THR starts up a CS server in WA or something, I won't be able to participate. Such is the curse of the dial-up user. :( I generally look for something that gives me a 130 ping when empty, and holds 12 or less players.

Last week I started playing on Duke's Dead Zone server. If I get everything done in time today, I'll try to pop in on a couple of the listed servers tonight.

The problem, of course, with CS, as I just found out, is that my "shoot everything that moves" skills from Quake and HL deathmatches are not very good on a server like the Wombat server that has teamkilling. That was the first time I've ever been kicked. :uhoh:

(okay, self, your teammates are NOT your enemies...)

I stopped playing Counter-Strike about a year ago because frankly in my opinion it sucks compared to Day of Defeat. The cheats suck too, but there's alot less cheaters in DOD than CS.

I haven't played DOD in about two months and don't even have it installed anymore, but I may put it back on next version if they fix the Colt .45 bug. Be warned, I am VERY VERY good. :D Whichever team I'm on usually means the other team gets massacred. :) I don't like alot of PC games, but when I play one I usually stick to that game and get as good as possible. I don't like losing!

I ned to work on playing better now. I've got a clan that needs to look halfway decent based on my skills! I have been doing better since I put the [THR] tags on.

I feel your pain wanderer. I used to be better but I had a big gap in my plaing and when I started again I just sucked and still do. Haven't played in about a week though because I've been too busy.

In October though my wife will be on a rotation at a clinic in another town for a month. I'll miss her but that will definitely give me more time to play CS in the evenings for a while.
