I'll point you in the right direction but you may not like it.
Stick with the magazine that came on the gun. The aftermarket magazines are almost invariably a pain in the neck.
I don't recall ever hearing of a function problem with an SKS that didn't have to do with aftermarket mags.

i heard that for all detachable magazines, but what i've read on the internet (for what it's worth) it appears the 20 round fixed magazines are as reliable as the 10 rounder in the firearm now. i'll probably follow your advice anyway, from what i've seen they are selling for 40-60$ and for an extra ten rounds it doesn't seem worth it. I appreciate your advice and will most likely stay with the ten rounder, not much difference in using two stripper clips right after each other or one and then another after ten rounds. Thanks for the tip.

I've never seen any 20 round fixed magazines for an SKS, could you tell me where you found them?

I have one, but unfortunately it turned my sks into a jam-0-mattic. the construction is cheaply done and rather flimsy. Give them a try anyways though you may have more luck.

This is WAY overpriced, but they are out there. Let me give you some advice. Take it or leave it.
Why don't you just stay with the 10 round magazines. I bought a ChiCom 20 round fixed mag like you are looking for. I installed on each of my three SKS's at one time or another. In the end, it's sitting on my shelf and I've got the factory mag in the rifle. I even bought a Chi-Com Flush 5-round mag because I was never needing the higher capacity. The gun also looks clean with the 10-rounder. You can load the thing with clips lickity-split and it's more reliable with the standard capacity.

Turn around and run away from those 20-rd fixed mags. They're junk. Junk metal, junk design and junk construction.
I found out the hard way. Many others have found out the hard way. Only gun part I ever threw away (instead of pitching into my 'everything' box).
I may be wrong, but I haven't heard of even one working reliably.

sorry to be a minority, but I installed a 20 rounder like in the picture a year so ago on my chinese SKS, and havent had a problem with feeding. Only problem at first was getting a full 20 rds in it. 19 was the most it would take till it loosened up some. My friend got one at the same time and from the same distributor (centerfire), and his has never functioned right. Course, it could be due to the fact that he tried to install his with the bolt in battery before he realized he damaged the feed lips--no mag can take that.
I agree it is hit or miss with the 20rders. For $24.95 it works for me. Your results may vary.....

I had installed one into my (purchased) early '90s Chinese SKS and it has worked very well.

There is more than one version of this magazine kicking around out there. I've seen some that were basically pieces of crap with paint over bare metal and thin metal to boot. Mine worked fine in all of the guns I tried it in, it is blued, and it seems to be well made enough.

What I was told is that they tend to work on ChiCom SKSs but not so well on others such as Russian, Romies, or Yugos.
I don't have the inclination anymore to be a test pilot.

My first rifle was a NORINCO SKS Paratrooper w/bad, evil features.
I never shot it with the standard 10-rd. mag.
I replaced it with the 20-rd. mag.
We had to monkey-rig the mag.
It never shot a full mag.
I sold the rifle, regretting it to this day that I never used it in its original form...

I had one - an actual Norinco - looked like it mimicked the design of the stock mag exactly, with some quality, and therefore SHOULD HAVE worked (unlike the detachables), but most certainly it did NOT work! Every round that fed from the right side worked, but every round that fed from the left side jammed in low, bullet under the chamber entrance (or maybe vice versa it was). But, I attribute this to the fact that it was a Russian SKS, not a Norinco - I hear (hearsay - but see above *actual* experience) that the 20 rounders work on Norincos - if you have a Russian or other, stick with the 10 round stock mag or you'll be disappointed, IMO. Too bad I dumped mine cheap when I found it it didn't work, or I'd sell it to ya.
