I just purchased a witness elite match in 40s&w. I have only been reloading for about a month. I started loading 9mm with pretty good success and now I am begining with the 40 for the witness. Has anyone got any reloading advice for this caliber or this gun? interested in what OAL the witness likes the best etc... Also, I have several hundred once fired 40 winchester brass that were fired in a Glock 22 and was wondering if these would be alright to use given the bulge problem that glock creates. If these are ok to use, how many times should I use them before I discard them ?

You'll have to work up a load first, then fiddle with then OAL. No two firearms will shoot the same ammo the same way.
The bulged case will be fixed when you resize them. After that, case life is entirely dependent on how hot the load is.

Mine loves the Zero 165 Gr JHP (http://czcustom.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=21_47&osCsid=98518f864acac929ca09834265f179db) matched up with Universal Clays @ 1.135 O.A.L.. (Yep, kind of long) I have some Zero 180 Gr JHP's, but have not tried them yet.

If that brass sizes OK, it will be fine. You may want to buy a case gauge, but you can use your chamber to check the sized brass, because that is all it will need to fit in for your shooting.

Thanks for the info, I had already loaded some rounds to an OAL of 1.133 before I submitted my question and will try them soon. Using hornady 180 gr. fmj-fp bullets. If the witness performs as good as it looks then I know I will love it. Shot my friends 10mm with remington factory ammo and it was flawless. Hope mine turns out the same way although I am still interested in some good soft plinking loads if anyone can comment. I have vihtovouri 3n37 (probably spelled wrong), hs-6, green dot, blue dot, and hodgdon universal powders on hand.

I have a witness silver team in .40 and I am using 155gr and 165 gr rainier plated bullets, I have had good luck with AA5, universal and win 231. My gun does not like the max loads, and beginning loads are a little weak, about in the middle works best for me.

I'd not use the Glock fired brass for full house loads, but all my .40S&W guns do real well with a hard cast lead 180gr TCFP and 5.2 grains of Unique. I set the OAL so the cylindrical part of the bullet protrudes above the case about the thickness of a fingernail. No issues recycling Glock fired brass with this load.

I got into .40S&W because of all the free brass I was finding at the range, a lot of LEO shoot there, mostly Glocks and they are nice enough to leave the brass for me :)

The bulge is removed by resizing but any loss of strength from over stretching is not in any way made better, which is why I'd not go near full power reloads with Glock bulged brass.

Berrys 180 Gr TrFP shoots well in my W.E.M. It is very pleasent to shoot at around 900 FPS using WSF, AA #2, or AA #5. The hotter 155 & 165 gr loads are snappier than the leisurely 180's, but none are bad in the Witness. It's weight and big grip really soak up recoil well.
