[XD-40 Shooter]

I'm looking for a good full power 357 load with Accurate #9, 158 grain jacketed, 4" Taurus revolver. Do I need magnum primers? My 1997 Accurate load guide list's 13 grains as the max load, velocity is 1261 fps from a 6" barrel. Do the newer manuals list a higher load?

That looks exactly right to me. (I might push it to 13.5 grains for another 100 fps, but it would be irresponsible for me to recommend that to you because the pressure would be about 38.5 kpsi instead of 35)

I load 13.5gr of AA#9 behind a 158gr XTP/HP with small pistol primers, works great in my Ruger security six 2.75" and Colt Trooper 4". I found that 158gr Remington JHPs top out at 13.2gr for me. For your Taurus I would work up from 12.5gr of #9. My older AA data used CCI 500 primers for .357 mag.

Sounds about right, You don't need magnum primers thought. I run about 12.5 with sp primers. More punch than factory loads but not as much as my 2400 loads. They work okay. I just like 2400 better for 357's.

I like 2400 for 357. And of course, bullseye is a great all-round power. Jim
