PPK problem

While shooting last week, I got a smokestack in my Manurhin .32ACP PPK, and noticed that the extractor, and the spring behind it, had jumped out. I got it on the ground, put it back in, and fired another few rounds, without any problems. I also noticed that the loaded chamber indicator stopped functioning.

This happened after firing about 150 rounds of 73gr practice ammo, that has never given me any trouble. In that shooting session I shot some rapid firing exercises with magazine changes, which means that I usually fire 22 rounds in a probably under 10 seconds.

I put around 1000 rounds now through the PPK, and this is the first problem, which is worrying because this is my only firearm in a one firearm only country.

Any ideas what could have caused this?

No clue. Take it to your local gunsmith and tell him the story while he looks it over. Maybe some PPK owners will have a better hunch.

The PPK extractor generally can't be removed unless the spring pressure behind it "goes away". I'd dissassemble the slide and look for burrs and/or binding in the extractor spring channel that would cause the spring to hang up and not put its full pressure on the extractor.

The spring may also be weak and in need of replacement.

EDITED TO ADD:

I reread your post and you seem to have reinstalled the spring and extractor from the ejection port. That should be almost impossible to do based on my PPK/s, although it is in 380.

A properly tensioned extractor spring can be very difficult to insert using the proper methods on these guns. If the gun had a previous owner, I wonder if he took a shortcut and cut a few coils off to make the job easier...

I would guess either the spring for the extractor has lost some energy or the plunger and or extractor have rounded off the edges where they meet allowing the extractor to slip by. You are talking about some pretty cheap and small parts. If you carry this gun for serious use, I would likely just replace them all and be done with it. The gun will function fine without the loaded chamber indicator, but, you need to figure out whats going on in there. Unless it broke in half, it should still be sticking ou the back of the slide when theres a round in there. It really doesn't have any place it can go.
