I recently purchased a T/C New Englander shotgun. This thing is a blast!! Was able to place 8 of 10 shots on a 12' ringer at 40yds with a PRB and 80gr of 2fg. Should make a good deer gitter.:D
The only ting I find different is the the lock is not engraved. All of the photos I can find show a engraved lockplate. Where there 2 grades of these guns? The inletting is also a little sloppier than I would expect from T/C.:uhoh:
I know that T/C no longer offers these, more the pity, but were there other barrels available? How about a flint barrel and lock?:D:D

I recently bought a T/C New Englander at an auction; it's a .50 cal rifled barrel and the lock is 'engraved'.
The Fifth Edition (2007) of the Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms shows only one grade of New Englander. It was available in percussion only .50 or .54 caliber with either 24 or 28 inch blued round barrel and walnut or something called Rynite stock. The shotgun was also percussion only, in 12 gauge with either 26 or 28 inch and walnut or Rynite stock.
There apparently were sets sold with 'extra' barrels.

I have an old battered new englander, it is a 12g with no engraving on the lock. Kinda looks a piece but shoots well with patched balls. Never yet hit a clay pigeon with it though.

Are the rifle and shotgun barrels interchangable?

I had a TC New Englander about 18 or so years ago & kick my self for ever getting rid of it back then :( but that was my young stupidity.
I look on GB & UA every once in a while to see if any is out there but when I bid some one catches the prize at the end :( but I still try.
Are the rifle and shotgun barrels interchangable?
Yes

I got mine off of Auction Arms. There have been several rifles up for bid. Check every few days.
You can buy a used .54 Hawken from Gunbroker or Auction Arms for around 250 to 300 USD.
Or
A used Renegade for 170 to 225 USD.
Then add a drop in .62 smooth bbl from Green Mountain. This would give you a rifle sighted smooth bore shooting a 20GA ball.
Plus you can shoot it as a 20ga shotgun.
You could send the smooth bbl to a Black Powder barrel maker and have it rifled, then you would be in Jager range with the T/C Hawken or Renegade.
Just some options for you if you want to shoot big balls.

I am currently shooting a 62cal flint Hawken, and a 62cal Matchlock musket!:D:D
I was looking for the barrels so my left handed son could hunt with it. Easier to shoot a right handed caplock left handed, than a flinter.
