Howdy! I want a stainless steel CZ 75, but it only comes in a matte finish. Is it possible, and economical, to have one polished to a bright finish? My interest is in then having it engraved.
It it possible to engrave a matte stainless steel pistol and have the engraving come out sharp and brilliant?
Here's what one looks like:

Thanks for any info.

I am At work and can not look at you picture.
BUT
The only thing that would Influence me on polishing any matte finished firearm is the depth of the markings, If the stamped numbers and letters are deep enough that I know I will be able to cut thru the matte with out loosing them, then a polish finish is not a problem.
That said if you have an engraver in mind, let him be the judge, most engravers are caple and want to do their own prep work, EI.... Polish the metal. Working with the engraver wether the markings are deep enough, or the engraver says he will have to deepen them, he/she will be the "man with the plan" and not held to following someone elses tracks!

I strongly second Big Az Al's advice.
Let the engraver call the shot's on what needs to be done.
Myself, I think good engraving on a matte background looks mighty fine.
A lot of high-grade guns are done that way.
Look at the floor-plate on the right:

And this satin nickle Colt:

Besides, a high polish on stainless steel will pick up & show scratches from a mile away.
I wouldn't do it on a bet.

rcmodel! Thanks for the pics, I kind of thought that would work! Wow the 1911 looks stunning!
Now to find a "reasonable" engraver!
