For a long time Smith and Wesson has made lightweight revolvers out of materials such as aluminum and titanium, and most recently, scandium. They did it to the .357 magnum, a round that was once commonly used for elk, but is now barely considered enough for whitetail. They did it to the .44 Magnum, with the 329 PD. When the 500 Magnum goes down this road, what will they make it's five shot snub-nose version out of?

I understand they have some prototypes in ceramics. There was a brief mention of this in an article a year or so back. They're nowhere near production status, and may not make it that far, but given that ceramics have been used to make top-of-the-line knives and other things like that, it may be possible to develop a ceramic that can serve for frames, etc. How about a gun that shatters when you drop it? :D

You'll have to be careful because the gun will periodically fall off the table.

i'd like a .500 s&w snubbie just for the "holy crap" factor. You think .357 snubbies have big muzzle blast? :D

Basically, i don't care if it's made out of depleted uranium, i want one, especially if it's not made by S&W.

This is from the full size one
