Boresnake as good as rod?

Can I do away with my rods and just stock Boresnakes?

Couple problems:

1) Doesn't seem to do as good of a job as a rifle brush
2) No way to push a dry patch through at the end (jag style)
3) ?

Sven has nailed it I think .... I use my 12G snake after a session of trap etc ...... and in shotgun often adequate for a few times but . with the .22 snake and the 30 cal snake ...... it is more of a ''holding'' operation really ... it'll never (IMO) deal with the metal fouling and residual chemicals etc ...... that HAS to be brush with cleaners and always a final patch etc.

Good things to have ''in the field'' tho i think.

I still use a rod on my centerfire rifles every once in a while but haven't used anything but a borebrush and FP10 (or formerly CPL) on any handguns or rimfire rifles in a couple years.

I think a rod is better than a boresnake. Even if its a multi-sectional rod instead of those Dewey one-piece plastic coated spring steel rods with the friction-reduced ball bearing handle. :D

If you ever have a stuck case, or a stuck bullet, there is no way you can get that out with a boresnake.
