I'm not yet into blades, but...

I've a friend who's recently into swords - I thought "the decorative kind (no honed edge)".

He recently brought a couple he'd bought on-line to show me. They each seemed to be a good looking item with various decor. But they had sharp cutting edges.

That sharpness got me wondering - we have such a mess of "law" regarding guns (and their transport, among other things) - if he were seen along the byway with these items would he have legal problems?

I guess the question really is "Are swords (etc.) a controlled subject like guns are?" If so, then I suppose 50 states would have 50 versions of "control", huh?

Do states with concealed weapons permits (not CCH) include swords and their ilk under their permits?

I guess this is called "Enquiring minds want to know."

Thanks.

In most states, shipping swords is not controlled.

Some states classify swords as weapons or dangerous weapons that you may not carry unless you are doing so under some expemption. Heck, some states prohibit spears (concealed or otherwise:evil: )

This varies heavily by state, and you didn't provide that info.

As knife laws vary from state to state, you should check your local laws. Here is a good starting place to do this:

As far as I know, ownership of swords is legal throughout the United States. Carry (especially concealed carry) is another matter. In California, for example, it is perfectly legal to open carry a sword—though I wouldn’t do it outside of a Renaissance Faire or some such event.
