What's the cheapest (while still maintaining decent quality) pistol grip with stock setup for the 870? I tried my buddy's pistol grip with stock setup and it was much more comfortable than the stock setup on my 870.

The only one I tried was the Choate. Dunno about price. A bit more muzzle rise compared to a standard wood stock, but comfortable.
Discomfort with a shotgun can be traced to heavy loads, bad form and bad fit.
Lighten your loads. 8 or 9 pellet buck is fine, 1 oz slugs also.
Work on your form as we all should. Get a good press into your shoulder with all the pad in contact. Lean well into the shot. Work on smoothness and effect. Speed will show up on its own.

Choate is good.
Speedfeed is good.
ATI is a bit cheaper and is ok.

Knoxx makes a good stock. Reduces recoil as well. Just don't shoot it with a scope!
