AR-15 Scope suggestions please?

Would like to get some suggestions on a new scope for my AR - been shopping for one but just get more and more confused. Don't want to spend $1000+ for a Trijicon or anything like that (well would want to but can't) - Only have about $300-$350 allocated to this and I don't know much about rifle scopes. Also mounts? I'm a handgunner so this is somewhat new territory for me.
Suggestions on where to buy would be good too.
Thanks

One problem with putting a scope on an AR15 is getting a good mount. Note I am talking about a GOOD mount, not just something that might bolt on. The last mount I bought was $175. What kind of AR do you own; flat top or one with a carry handle ? What do you plan on doing with the rifle ? Self defense, three gun matches, plinking, hunting ?

Its a pre-ban folding stock, etc with a flat top but I do have a carry handle for it. I would like to use it with either a scope and iron sights if that's possible. I want to use it in 3-gun (if I get good enough with it). I saw that Wilson has a mount that appears to allow you to use either one but don't know much about that.
I have also been thinking of possibly eventually getting another upper so that I could use one with a scope and one with iron sights but not really sure. Maybe one with bull barrel and one with the Wilson match that's now on it.
Thanks for any advice on this.

Have you considered a red dot sight? I bought the Aimpoint Comp ML-2 (10,000 hour battery life), as used by the Army, mounted it on a Rock River Arms "handle" like this (http://www.rockriverarms.com/rra_le_a2_tactical_car.htm) one. The tube sits in front of the rear sight, and when the switch is on, you use the red dot; when the switch is off, you use the iron sights through the tube. Works great. Inside a 100 yards, it's the ticket. I got 1 to two inch groups at 100 yards with it.
I kept it when I sold my Bushmaster, in case I bought another one, but I probably won't for a couple of years. I'll probably sell it.
Your other alternative is to get a flip-up rear sight. You leave it down when the scope is mounted, then flip it up when the scope is off. I have no idea whether the scope holds its zero when removing and replacing the scope on a Picatinny rail, though.

Yes, you can take the scope on and off at will if you are using something like an ARMs mount. That is what I have on a couple of my ARs. The Bushmaster varmiteer, and my .458 SOCOM uppers both have scopes in ARMs mounts and my main "go-to" AR has an Aimpoint ML2 in another ARMs mount.
The ARMs mounts have levers on the rings. So you just throw the lever and the optic comes right off. It is supposed to go back on and hold it's zero, but I don't trust it and tried it once on mine and it was about 6" low at 200 yards.
If I was you, I would go to this web page and talk to them about it. www.mstn.biz
They are one of the most knowlegable places I have ever dealt with and are also nice. They are true businessmen and you usually have your product in about three days. I don't even research this stuff anymore. I just give MSTN a call, tell them what I want to do, they suggest what they would buy, and I tell them to send it to me.

Nothing beats an EOTech for 100 yards and in. Super fast laser hologram reticle allow you to use it in any position because it has no eye relief or parallax. Mounts right to your flattop and aligns with sight right out of the box.http://www.swfa.com/riflescopes/eotech/tacmount3.gif
If you want to do some longer range target or varmint shooting then nothing beats the Super Sniper series.http://www.swfa.com/riflescopes/tasco/tascoss2.gif

"Nothing beats an EOTech for 100 yards and in. "
I personally don't agree with that statement, but SWFA is a good place to do business with. I have purchased a number of scopes from them and was more than satisfied with the price and the service.

Taoshooter,
Check www.riflescopes.com. (They've already posted.) I have ordered some stuff from them and they are very prompt and may even throw in a few little freebies with it.
From what I've found, they are the best to deal with and prices are very good. You won't go wrong.
