Just got back from a bank. We were going to the movies and I had a check from a friend to cash so I stopped at his bank.

This was within the hour so here is the verbatim account:

I present check and driver's license.

"Do you have an account here?"
"Nope"
"Well, we'll need a fingerprint and a second ID."
"Okay." (put print and take out CCW)
"What's this?"
"It's a license to carry a gun."
"Are you an......'officer?'" (in a hesitant voice)
"Nope."
"What ARE you?"
"A private citizen."
"A private citizen?"
"Yep."
"I don't know if we can accept this."
"Sure should, go ask your boss."
She goes to manager........who okays it in a nanosecond.
"Have a nice day."
"You too."

Wish I could add all the facial expressions.

heh heh heh

I had the identical experience at a local bank (not mine) where I was trying to cash a check drawn on said bank. It took about 5 minutes for the idjit in charge to figure out it (my Texas CHL) plus my TX drivers license, both with my likeness, as scary as it is...was a legitimate form of identification and that I was not a deviant of some sort. Of course, the guy in the next line who didn't speek eeengleesh used a Consular card as ID (no drivers license) and cashed a state draft.

Too funny!

I get a similar reaction from the woman at the leather shop when I take a new vest in to have it fitted. (I can't carry in my own state, but do in many others where I'm legal). I bring in my holster and gun (sans barrel and magazine).

"Are you a cop?"
"No."
That was the first time out.

Second time was "FBI?"
"Not with this scraggly beard, no."

Third time was, "ok, you're a PI, right?"
"Nope."

Hopefully, by the next fitting, we'll have CCW passed here and she'll get the idea.

i used to have my CHL taped to my DL, and every time i would present my DL to buy beer the clerk would turn it over and ponder for a few minutes what that funny looking card was.

I was opening an account for our daughter (to be born in Nonvember)... fella asks to see my drivers license.... I have my SCDL and my CWP in the same part of my wallet so when I pull one out the other comes with it.....

Me: "here you go sir"

He: "well...." he says while looking at my CWP "I see you are in law enforcement"

Me: "No" I say, "my wife's family is..... I'm just a normal guy with a CWP"

"oh" he says.... handing me back my SCDL and CWP.....

You should have seen the look on his face. All I had one me was my Kel-Tec since I was in shorts and a T-shirt...... I just know he was trying to see if I was carrying......

Aw, you guys are hogging all the fun! Where I live, a permit to carry concealed hand guns wouldn't even rate a blink.

I never show that little card to anyone. I don't even show cops, unless they ask. No one's biz but mine.

My CCW doesn't count as ID here in AZ, no picture. It even says it isn't valid unless presented with a picture ID.

And no one sees it except the people at the gun shop.

I presented my Florida CCW at Reagan airport in DC last year by mistake. You should have seen the ticket angents face :what:

She asked If I was carrying a concealed firearm and I replied I wasn't. I kept getting the evil eye from her as we finished our business. No other problems though. I agree with Mannlicher, No ones business except my own.

You're a glutton for punishment there, Chaz. ;)

Last spring I checked a firearm at Reagan National Airport. Can you say, "Keystone Cops"? When it was all over the Airport Police officer who wrote up the "incident report" was very nice and pointed out that I had done everything by the book and that the airline agent and TSA had screwed up. Glad I had allowed an extra hour.

Must be living a charmed life. Never had a problem flying with guns. Of course, I go to GWR or Tejas when I fly.:D

Used my Indiana LTCH to get into a bar in Chicago once (nice place with a beer garden). No photo on our little pink cards but the doorperson let me without blinking.

El T, In theory a CCW permit should let you get in the door. Since you have to be 21 to get the permit, logic would state that you would be "of age." Of course, logic rarely ever works...

Similar thing happened to me a while back. I went in to do an A+ certification exam, and the testing center wanted 2 forms of ID. I'm not giving them my credit card number, so out comes the DL and CHL. The fellow at the desk looks at it, looks at me, looks back at the card, looks back at me, asks "are you carrying right now?" "Nope." I reply. "Good enough".

There are four people who know I carry ... my two roommates, a former roommate who now lives out of state, and a good friend who lives on the other side of the state.

I don't use my carry permit as ID for a couple of reasons ... one, I think whether or not I'm carrying, and whether or not I'm "allowed" to carry is just as my someone else's business as to whether or not I'm wearing undies, and what sort I may or may not be wearing. Secondly, I disagree with the idea that I need a permit to carry concealed, so I just tend to leave it be and don't touch.

My biggest two personal struggles were when I went onto a naval installation in another state which does not recognize Oregon permits, and when I went to Canada for a weekend. And I will not state whether or not I decided to carry in those situations, either.

I don't feel as special as you guys, but I used my PtA (Permit to Acquire pistols and revolvers) as secondary ID when applying for a library card. It seemed to work for them, don't think I got any special reaction though. :(

I was out with my SO and a married couple of friends getting some Ethiopian food in Boulder, CO. John orders some wine (or something) and is carded. As a matter of course, he hands over his CCW (he wasn't carrying at the time). The person stares at it for a while, and then insists on seeing his driver's license, saying something like, "We have to see your D.L., it's the law." Sure isn't.

Only time someone has seen my CWP is when I got carded at a bar after we'd been there for 15 minutes and were already playing shuffleboard. I keep my DL in my wallet behind the clear plastic window with the CWP behind it so nobody sees it. Instead of looking at the ID, they guy took the wallet and looked at it, then took the DL out which exposed the CWP. He looked at it and said, "Do you have a gun on you now?" I responded, "It is illegal to carry a gun in a place that serves alcohol in South Carolina." "OK, good." That was it. They now know me and all of my friends at that bar and we converse with the door guys when we walk in. Everyone else in town just looks at the ID while it's still in the wallet if they bother to check at all. I think it's the full beard that convinces them not to card me.

Y'all GOTTA be kidding...

if thay ask for a "D.L." I give it to them... if thay (or their sign) ask for a "picture ID", it's the CCW they see...

I LOVE the looks it earns... and the inane questions it generates... (AND it earns respect from the people knowledgable enough to know what it takes to get one)

When I flew to N. Carolina (and back) from Detroit Metro BOTH times they asked for 2 forms of ID... (1 with pic) they got my D.L. and my CCW - and boarding the plane itself ALL they saw was the CCW... not even a question asked, or an eye blinked... 'twas all good!
