Remington 721 in 30.06

I have very limited rifle knowlage and need some help, please.

Is this the "long" action?

A friend received his brothers rifle. The brother was a very small man and had the stock cut down. Will a Mdl. 700 long action stock fit this rifle?

Thank you folks,
~Randy

The .30-06 would be considered a "long" action. Can't help you with the stock. How badly was the original wood butchered? I was thinking if it wasn't too bad you could lengthen it with a recoil pad and/or some spacers. A gunsmith could probably make a 700 stock work, but I doubt if it's a drop-in. By the way, I have one of these, unaltered, in .30-06. It shoots near MOA groups with may handloads.

Model 721's were only long actions.
You may want to have a look at this too. Don't see a date anywhere though.

This guy, not Gunparts/Numrich, has semi-finished M721 laminated stocks. $140.
