I have a new Winchester 94 30-30 angle eject and I bought a Williams rear sight 5D for a model 94 side eject. It seems like it should be simple to mount. Two problems, when the sight is mounted I cannot operate the lever, the second problem is that the original rear sight gets in the way.

I would appreciate your help guys.

From your description, I'd guess that you have the wrong sight for the rifle. Williams make a Model 94SE sight for the older-production top-eject Winchester, and a Model FP 94/36 for the angle-eject model. I assume you have the SE sight, and are trying to mount it on the AE model. I'd take it back to your dealer and swap it out for the correct model.

I think you are right. With the right sight how do you see over the top of the front original sight?

Do you mean the original rear (barrel-mounted) sight? Well, you don't. If the peep is high enough to see over it, that means you'll be shooting high. First, try lowering the rear sight all the way, then folding it down (if possible). If it's still in the way, you'll have to remove it. Drive it out of the dovetail, put it into your parts box, and put a "filler blank" in the dovetail.

I think Preacherman has the Williams models reversed. The 94SE ('SE' for Side Eject] goes on the angle eject model rifles and the 94/36 goes on the top eject models.

I have a Win 94 AE and the Williams 94SE sight. It works great. I did have to remove the original rear sight, but I didn't install a filler blank. The blank fits in the dovetail grove and makes it look a little better and smoother, but that's the only purpose for it.

Mal, I got the model descriptions from the Williams Web site, but the picture I was looking at had the descriptions reversed! :D On another part of the site, they show the correct labels. Thanks for picking this up.

Thanks guys, I have the right model. It is tight when operating the lever, Williams said to file the inside bottom of the sight. Any thoughts? How do I remove the rear sight? You have been a great help, thanks.

To remove the rear sight, take a brass punch to the side of the sight in line with the dovetail and simply hammer it out. It won't take a lot of force, so be fairly gentle.

You use a brass punch so as not to mar the sight or rifle/dovetail. If you don't have one, just place something in between a steel punch and the sight such as thick paper or cardboard. Use as fairly wide ended punch if possible to distribute the force more evenly so it won't punch through the cardboard. You'll figure it out.
