It's a given around here that the "increased security" now at U.S. airports is an all around joke. Just for show, for the little people and the uninitiated.

I used to have a SIDA card for ramp access Lambert Airport, St. Louis, and had access at Louisville and Topeka. I think it would be near impossible and extremely expensive to secure the ramps at most large airports.
I don't think they could do it effectively if they wanted to, and still maintain their flight schedule, and, make money.
It's been a few years since I had access but I doubt operations have changed much (probably gotten more hectic), and when I was there I could have gone about anywhere I wanted to. I had the codes to the jetways, my card would get me through most of the service entrances and baggage doors. People and vehicles were coming and going constantly. I couldn't imagine them being able to screen everyone and everything, everytime they entered or exited a SIDA.
I think the article is for the most part on the money.
