I've searched (the internet and THR) but can't seem to find the inexpensive MKs

I don't know, maybe my perceptions are misaligned...I keep finding MKIIIs for $450+ and MKIIs for over $500. I've checked a few local shops (this is MD there aren't many good ones), gunbroker.com and around here. Any suggestions? Or am I just horribly off expecting/hoping to find a NIB/Lightly used for $250 (I'm afraid I may already know the answer lol.)
As always thanks for reading the posts of a newb and offering your weathered hand :)

NIB you probably won't find. used you should. You just have to keep looking and waiting. They just don't sit around for very long, but there have been so many made that a few are always going to be available. You'll have better luck at local gunshops than online. Get to know a few shopkeepers and ask them to keep an eye out for you.

Yes, I'm afraid that your worst fears are confirmed.
I've seen used ones for as little as $450 (Jackson Armory in DFW Texas by SMU was where I saw it at), but that's the cheapest I've seen in a long time. If you look around ALOT you'll eventually find a used one for around $500 (sometimes a little under, but usually a little over), but the new ones go for about $700+.
You could get one of the Argentine FM clones that were approved by FN, those are less expensive ($250 to $350). The fit and finish isn't as nice, but if you're short on cash it's a little more realistic and closer to your budget.

Wait a minute, are you talking about Ruger .22lr pistols, or are you asking about a different animal altogether?

I figured that he was talking about Browning HP's/FN GP35's/MK II's and III's.

That's just a guess though.

ZombieJunter didn't specify. I was ready to assume Ruger. Browning logically (for him) assumed High Power.
ZombieHunter should tell us. I'd love an FM for $250.

If he is talking about a Ruger MK III, PM me. I can get them all day long for $259 + shipping.

As a fellow Marylander, I'd like to personally say hi and welcome to THR, ZombieHunter! Any fan of zombies is a friend of mine!
If you are indeed talking about Ruger MK III pistols - part of the reason you're not finding them on the cheap, is simply because we live in MD. Most of the guns you'll see in the shops are priced higher than they would be elsewhere. Sucks, but what can you do? Ordering online is an option, but many times it ends up breaking even when figuring in shipping and transfer fees.
Where in MD are you? If you're anywhere near the Columbia/Ellicott City/Laurel area, I'd be happy to meet you at one of the local ranges and let you put some rounds through my MK III Hunter if you'd like. I might also be able to suggest some decent shops to check for bargains, depending on where it is that you've already looked.

The only logical Mark III gun I can think of that he may be talking about in that price differential range is Colt Trooper Mark III. Some people still think you can get them for $250-$300 and a couple lucky dogs might but the majority of the other will be paying $350-$450.

Thanks for the responses and sorry I didn't respond sooner I posted then went on vacation without WIFI lol.
I was talking about the Ruger .22lr. I played with 5 of them at the BassPro the other day. Helped me figure out which ones I like and don't like. Realized that either grip felt good but I didn't care for the way the magazine felt in the 22/45 and it was very awkward for me to get it out in the MKIII...my hands were too long and kept holding it in place.
I did like the MKIII Hunter I think it was, came with adjustable rear and a fiber front. Had a nice weight and I think the 6" stainless barrel with the grooves.
And thanks KingPin, I live in Severn not too far from those places and usually shoot at On-Target by the base.

I don't need a Ruger Mark II, but if I found one for $250, I'd probably buy it anyway. Ruger for years kept the price down to managable levels because they're not all that expensive to make; however, the demand is what drives the price, and sadly, $450+ sounds about right. And with a $9 trillion debt and massive bailouts by our elected officials, I expect the price to eventually top a grand. And it may be sooner than a lot of people think.
It's really not a bad price for something that will last you for the rest of your life, and the rest of your kids' lives. Chances are the government will get it before it breaks or needs repairing. They think guns make better manhole covers.

Yeah I'm slowly warming to the fact that I might pay $500 for a .22lr pistol. But hey...like you said it'll last forever. I remember shooting my grandfather's when I was 6 or 7. Good times had by all :)

My local shop has two MKIIIs and one minty MKI in the shelf now, the MKI is the most expensive at $300. You should be able to find one.
P.S. He also had a very nice MKII Target, but that one went home with me. :)

Wait, I thought he was talking about spitfires. He's not? I tend to see a the ruger .22's in pawn shops, the decent shops. Someones dad had one, passed away and the heirs have no use for it.

To me, the best deal going right now is the 50th Anniversary MKll. I see them for sale on the internet NIB for $325 or so. That's a deal for a MKll.

I bought a new MK III a couple of months ago for $250 and last week I bought a William Ruger NRA commemorative MK II in the box for $250. That trade-in lasted about thirty minutes on the shelf.:D I guess the good deals may be location sensitive.

I still appreciate my Mk I Target. Another pawn shop steal for two hundred, 90%+ condition.
I like it a lot and should shoot it more often.
Only two annoyances: having to count rounds, and keeping a plastic hold-open block for range safety regs.

yeah i think tomorrow i'm going to buzz by a few local shops and see what's out there...along with the range to put a few holes in some paper :)
