In excellent/like new shape, probably from $400 and up without knowing the model or anything like that.
If you post pics you'll get a very accurate history and value of the gun. Just with the information you gave we really can't have any idea which Colt you have.

A brief pointer... .38 special... .357 magnum... no .38 magnum specials.
Just FYI.
Value? Need more input. You selling or buying? Blue or nickel? Detective Special, or a Colt 357? A blue almost virginal snub nose Colt... $375 up to $500? Nickel, (in good condition) add another $80-100. If it's a Diamondback or Python, add at least another $800.
Lawman, Agent, Cobra... sorta depends on what it is, really.
As PotatoJudge said... photos will narrow vague answers
[edited to add. ahhh a nickel Detective Special... If I was selling it, I'd start asking $500. If I was buying, I'd start offering $300]

Try to get the serial number too so we can give you an approximate date the gun was made.

The illustrated gun sure looks like a Colt Detective Special, .38 Special ONLY, no magnums allowed. Some people won't even shoot .38 Special +P in them but I would if somebody was shooting at me and I was carrying it for self defense.

actually the one who told me the info is my friend, she doesn't know much about guns, i asked her about the serial , she said she couldn't find any:confused:
anyway she'll ask her father (the owner) tomoro, or i'll go check it for my self soon
and they asked me what its worth now, they want to sell
