I would like to thank the folks that regularly post here and that have responded to me. I finally purchased my first handgun! I bought the PT 24/7 9mm. I am very pleased with it.

Now I am debating buying a .22 pistol simply for range shooting. Shooting 9mm has become expensive quick. Unfortunately money is an object for me. So perhaps some people have some suggestions for me as far as what to start looking for in a .22 pistol.

I have a few of each , pistols and revolvers but I would make my next purchase
a Browning Buckmark if I were you.
I have two and a S&W model 41 and all of them can shoot better then I can!!
All joking aside, a 22 Auto of whichever brand trips your trigger
will be alot of fun and I find can extend my range time by switching back and forth between rimfire and centerfire.

Good luck and happy shooting,

P.S Welcome to THR !

I second the Buckmark recommendation.

Congrats on the new gun.

While I can't personally recommend a Buckmark (don't have one and have never shot one) I've heard they're excellent pistols. I plan on picking one up in the future, in fact.

What I WILL recommend is the Ruger MK III. I have a Ruger MK III Hunter in stainless steel, and that thing is a workhorse. It'll eat whatever I feed it, and just keep plugging along, no questions asked. Accuracy is excellent, I can shoot one ragged hole all day long without even barely trying.

Solid, quality guns. Some might recommend a MK II over the MK III, but in my opinion, either will prove to be a great investment. Good luck with whatever you decide on!

Buckmark or Ruger MK series are the best of the inexpensive models. I still have my first Ruger Standard.

A wise man once told me, "Just about any decent 22 pistol will outshoot 99% of the shooters holding it." I tend to believe him. Pick them all up, find the one that feels best. I don't care for the Buckmark, but it's my wife's favorite pistol. Me, I like my big heavy Dan Wesson, she hates it because it's big and heavy. Kinda like shoes, don't buy until you get the right fit.

My primary reason for owning a .22, handgun or rifle, is to be able to shoot on the cheap. As well, I prefer the .22 to be laid out as close as possible to my centerfire handguns.

Hence, to practice for 1911s, I had a Browning Buckmark which has its grip frame angle, and controls in the same place, as the 1911s. I also had a Peter Stahl .22 conversion kit for the 1911.

For my S&W 686, a M-17 .22.

So if there is a .22 pistol out there that is laid out similarly to your PT 24/7, I'd get that.

Welcome to the forum....

I have a Ruger Mark II and a S&W M22A and both shoot very well. I just bought a used H&R Model 949 revolver for $99 that's a lot of fun too.

Its awfully hard to beat a Browning Buckmark for ease of operation
and / or cleaning. The Ruger MK-II's (and III) KMK-512 is a nice
gun also; but its a booger too put back together after field stripping~!

Hard to beat a Browning Buckmark or Ruger Mark I, II, or III. You can also find used S&W 422's reasonable and they are excellent little .22's as well.

If you can find a deal on an H&R like ArchAngelCD did, that would serve you well, and cheaply, too. :)

you know, I always fussed about breaking down my Ruger MkII Gov't Model but know it takes just a few minutes and goes back together easy as pie, granted I have had the gun for 10 yrs and have cleaned it hundreds of times, most of those cussing and complaining. All ruger Mk1, II, and III's should come with a rubber mallet.

The Buckmark is great, and there's a lot of addons for it if you want to make one into a true bullseye pistol.

Just be careful of the little springs in it when you disassemble it the first time... they're not kidding in the manual when they tell you to wear safety glasses. Trust me.

since you are new try a 10 shot revolver
there is something about revolvers i tend to handle my revolvers just to appreciate them more than pistols
