But I think the throat on my .220 is starting to go. Lots of carbon on the case neck, and I was having trouble hitting them consistently past 300 yards. Fortunately, I had decided to bring my .25-06 just for the helluvit. I'd forgotten how devastating those 75 grain/3,700 FPS loads are. Definitely put a couple of dogs into orbit  I can't wait to build my 6mm-06 improved.

I'm so glad summer is finally here!

You western boys got it made!
Lots of open public and private land.
Ya'll get to shoot across them wide open prairies knockin' the heads off them p dogs -rats what ever you're callin' 'em.

Hell back east here, if a ground hog hunter get two or three a day he thinks he's cuttin' a rug. Long shot is 150 yds, but we gotta use some thing way down the scale from a .220 Swift like maybe .22 Hornet, .221 Fireball, or even a .22 rim fire magnum to keep from wakin' up the neighbors.

And you only got 58, bad day huh:D

Ahhh geez, I was thinkin' y'all had burned down an old Corn Crib or somethin' & actually shot 58 R-A-T-S! Now that's some fast action.

Congrats on your HVC (high varmint count) ;)

About 12 miles North-East of Kiowa. 2,500 acre ranch, and he's tired of cattle with busted legs.

We had higher counts last July and August, but they just bred this year- most of the targets were little 'uns. Hard to hit a vole-sized dog at range. I did get a 3-fer, though-two babies were standing right behind momma. I hit her, and saw two little things go flying. I figured it was just guts or limbs, but once we got close we realized what the debris was. Had a couple of twofers as well.

This ranch is kinda tricky, as the towns are really spread out and the dogs are weary. Once you start touching off rounds, the ones up close stay down. 300 and further is the norm. Hence the .220. However, they're not as concerned with vehicles, so we get lots of opportunities to shoot 'em closer from the truck. Usually take those shots with AR's or .22's. I've hit a few with handguns at 20 & 30 yards. We're thinkin' it's time to build a varmint truck; no doors, no windshield, no roll bar-just a bikini top to keep the sun off our heads. That way we can shoot in any direction without getting out of the vehicle and alerting the rats.

Well, we did kill 37 mice with .22 shotshells in my buddy's garage in one evening.
