On my CMP service grade Underwood carbine; a walnut
stock was present. It has a JPL stamp on the left side
below the sight, a 3/8" P enclosed in a circle located
on the bottom of the pistol grip. Inside the sling recess
there is a W- possible it is a LW; or that could be the
edge of the metal stamp making the L. No M2 cut present.
My question- what is the manufacture of this stock?

Your stock was made by Lumb Woodworking. I believe there should be another letter after the LW to indicate for which prime contractor the stock was made for. As Lumb Woodworking was located in Poughkeepsie, New York, I think the missing letter is a B for I.B.M., an M1 carbine manufacturer also located in Poughkeepsie. The marking should be LW-B.
