I just bought one with a laser sight, no owner's manual. I have requested one from SW. I have read that you shouldn't dryfire this pistol and its cousins, but when I attempted to do this bad thing (just once), and pull the trigger, nothing happens. What gives? Does it only cock if a round is loaded into the chamber from the mag? If so, then this pistol can't be dryfired. Second question. I see the safety latch on the left side, but there seems to be another lever in front of it that won't move. What is the name and function of that other piece of metal in front of the safety lever?

To show you that I am not totally stupid, I did remove the slide and replace it with the aid of the book, Firearms Assembly and Disassembly. I also figured out what battery the Aimpoint sight takes and purchased and installed one.

Thanks,

Drakejake

i can now answer my own questions. The other control is the slide stop release. The trigger wasn't moving because I had the mag out. This pistol has a mag safety.
