S&W vs Kahr

A few months ago, my wife bought a Kahr K9 (9mm) based on the way it felt in the the store. She did not test fire it before purchase. After taking it to the range a few times, she does not like the way it feels and aims(points). Today in another store, she handled the S&W3913 9mm. It is a larger frame and she says feels a little better in her hands but we cannot find anyplace that rents them.

What is your opinion of the S&W compared to the K9?

I think you should start off and try a few rentable guns in your area and not buy another gun without test firing it first. Preferably test-fire the pistols with the self-defense ammo that you plan on using.

Everyone's got an opinion, but it ultimately will still go back to how the gun shoots in your wife's hands.

The problem is that I cannot find any range that rents the S&W3913.

Depends on what the gun is for. If she is carrying it, keep the kahr. If it is just for shooting, maybe something else would be better. Or maybe go half and half. A CZ Rami maybe?

Look around over on the S&W forum. http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/forums?a=search&reqWords=3913&use_forum_scope=on&forum_scope=520103904 The 3913 seems to be a very popular, well thought of gun. S&W also has a lifetime warranty, if you ever need it. I have a CS9, which is a little smaller, and it has been 100% reliable.
The 3913 is probably going to be a bit thicker, and a little heavier, but if she likes it better, what the heck. If she doesn't like the Kahr, it doesn't make any difference how good it is, she won't shoot it.

IIRC, the S&W 908 (http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&pageSize=10&published=1&beginIndex=0&resultType=2&attributeName1=Model&attributeValue1=908S&attributeValueType1=STRING&attributeValueOperator1=EQUAL&isFirearm=Y) is the cheaper version of the 3913 (http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&pageSize=10&published=1&beginIndex=0&resultType=2&attributeName1=Model&attributeValue1=3913TSW&attributeValueType1=STRING&attributeValueOperator1=EQUAL&isFirearm=Y). A few less milling operations, simpler lines, probably some plastic or MIM bits, but essentially the same thing. They definitely use the same magazines. Ask if anyone has one of those to rent.

I've had good luck with the 3rd generation S&W metal autos.

Then again, I have a yen for a K40 down at my local shop.

But the point stands that if the wife doesn't like the weapon she woln't shoot it. If she doesn' shoot it...well that's bad.

What's the width on the S&W steel frames (I assume it's different for 9mm, .40sw, and .45acp)?

Try the wood grips on the Kahr before you give up on it. Me I would stay with the Kahr.

I tested both, and found the 3913 to be 100% reliable. I have not looked back since buying it. Great 9mm compact the 3913.

Buy the wife what she wants and keep the Kahr for yourself. I love my K9.
