Advice Needed. My 92FS for a Mini XD9

I mentioned that I am looking for a CCW pistol because my 92FS is just too large to really carry every day concealed... even if I like it as much as I do.
I have an offer to trade for a NIB Springfield Mini XD9.

There is a big Neato Factor here on the little XD, and I have wanted one...
But I am not sure if I am willing to trade my 92 for it.

Hit me with a clue bat.

Sounds like you'd get the short end of that trade if it's a straight up deal, gun for gun. Personally, I'd keep that Beretta & buy the mini XD 9 outright.

2 10 round mags, clip on light... NIB. Retail is much much higher than what I bought the 92 for. The guy wants my 92 because its all metal and no plastic other than the grips.

I think I'll go for it, unless there is a good reason not to. I need a smaller gun. I'm not going to be doing IDPA or anything for a few years... so I might as well go for it. Unless there is a good reason not to.

Can't find the little XDs around here. :( I'd love to check out a .40!

Tough call. 92FS is a fine gun.

Darrin,

Maybe you already know this but they don't make the subcompact XD in a .40. (yet)

Sorry to go off-topic, there George! It sounds like the trade is a great fit for your need.

With the XML (X-treme Mini Light... don't get me started on the acronym), I'd go for it. Sounds like a good deal. Get a holster that will allow you to carry the light... it doesn't add much weight or bulk.

Please keep your Beretta. You can't do indirect fire at 200 yards with a XD9 quite as effectively.

Or, you could close the distance. :D

2 weeks ago I would have said keep the Beretta, then I got to handle (ok play with) an XD Subcompact with the light. Now I am voting XD. What a sweet gun. Felt good in the hand, pointed well, balanced well, seemed more substantial than say a G26. Kind of like something in between a G19 and a G26 (only of HS2000 decent, of course). I say make the trade.

Truthfully, I am not that impressed with the little light. It's neat, but I'll just keep it in the drawer with my socks.

If I do the trade. I don't know.
I would much rather have a 92 Compact. L. Still searching for one of those.

Let's see...You were all about the HK for awhile...the you found the 1911 again...then it was the CZ97...lately the Beretta...Walther in there somewheres...

I think you'll trade. :p

You might be right. But I'm not rolling over that easy.

Besides, you forget about the SIGs, the Detonics and a few other 1911 types, a Kahr, and....

Heck.

George,

I had your problem. I have a 92 Brig that is heavy and big for carry. I got a S&W 6906, same safety/operating system as the Beretta FS, and its much lighter. I can also use the same holster and mag carriers.

It was a KY Imports police trade and it was around $300 by the time it actually got in my hands. I have med-large hands and the mini XD9 really didn't do anything for me when I held it. It reminded me a lot of the Glock 26 I used to own.

JMHO, but I'd say keep the Beretta. Mike

How's TB going lately? Haven't been there in about 6 months or better.

Keep the 92. As a former gun shill(Gun store employee) I saw lots of XDs and their predecessor the HS 2000. We had an XD on rental as part of the SA dealer program. It broke twice in 3 months. Not encouraging. First the ejector broke then it was the extractor.
What about going back the Kahr pistols. I just did I am quite pleased.

After sleeping on this subject, I have made a final decision.

I'm keeping the Beretta.
The XD, while a fine gun, is a lesser gun in more ways than just size. While I need a compact gun, sacrificing my current gun is not a wise option because I wouldn't be able to replace it even if I had money to buy a new 92FS. This one, being an early Beretta USA example has no plastic parts in it save the grips. The build quality is better than the newer Berettas too.
This one has been smoothed out by time, a good gunsmith, and lots of rounds through it.

I'm not giving it up. FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!!!!!!

I'll have to find a little CCW some other way.

Hold out for a Glock. Hey somebody had to say it.:D

Actually I think you made the right choice but boy do I like that little itty bitty XD. It fits my hand well and I like the trigger so much more than I do the Glocks.

As for the light.........neat gimmick I guess but a gimmick none the less.

"Hold out for a Glock."

I'll be holding out for a very very long time then... I like XDs 10 times better than I like Glocks.

Jorge, how do you carry your Beretta (holster, belt, location, etc.)?

SodaPop
August 20, 2003, 03:05 PM
I wouldn't think that would be a good trade anyway. I carry a 92FS everyday, but I do appreciate carrying my Sig 239 outside of work.

A duty sized pistol for a smaller CCW gun????

Only if you're hurting for money.

You've got 5 boys......can't they sell lemonade so dad can get a new gun?

George,
Any gun, short of those rifle caliber pistols, can be concealed!! You need the right holster. Instead of looking for a new gun that you will have to get used to shooting, developing muscle memory...etc, you should be looking for a comfortable holster for your Beretta!!

www.fist-inc.com is a good place to start. I found a nice IWB holster for my PT92AFS there!!! :D I even carry it sometimes, when I'm not hoofing my G26 around!!

Yes, you should hold out for a Glock!!

Resistance is futile.
You will be assimilated!!!!

IWB for me and a 92 just doesnt work out.
I have several rigs that I wear depending on what I am wearing.
Safariland Custom Fit
G-Code paddle.
A simple leather belt slide.
G-Code REAC rig for when I'm just "going shooting".
The real problem with packing the 92 is that it has a huge fat butt and it's hot outside. So really it's just a plethora of typical CCW issues... the only way to help the situation is with a gun that doesn't have Jennifer Lopez's butt.
The one rig that I think I should try with this piece is a Vertical shoulder rig.
But for the price of one, I might as well get a CZ-52 that I could carry IWB easily.

Sell Lemonade? Funny you should mention that... :uhoh:
That's why I am selling knives.

Its funny that you wrote this thread because i used to carry a 92, but i got tired of lugging the thing around. Strong side, or shoulder didn't matter its a big gun. Down side is that its only 9mm. Not to start a flame war but if i want to carry a full size gun i want it in 45 or 10mm 1911 platform. So anyway i bought a new xd mini. feels heavier than a mini glock to me but thats just me. grip angle is better for me. The holster i have for it causes the butt of the pistol to stick out kind of annoying. Anyway this is how you work it. My wifes hands were to small for the grip on the 92 so i had to buy her a xd mini! smaller grip! good reason. but the slide is a little hard to pull back. guess she needs me to shoot it in a little:)

Hmmm as a possible future neighbor, I must tell you that my Subcompact xd has been flawless in over 5000 rounds now. No breakages of ANY kind utter reliability, Super accurate 15 yd 1.5" groups, I haven't ever owned a better auto, period.

Others can say what they will but I will NEVER part with mine.

Darn thing fits nicely in a small sized fanny pack too.

In short I LOVE MINE! If you're nice to me I may let you shoot it when I move there:D :D --Rob

"if i want to carry a full size gun i want it in 45 or 10mm 1911 platform"

Yeah, but I have almost 20 rounds in the gun, not someplace else.
You can do a lot with that much ammo on tap.

Oneshot... Deal.

Interesting afternoon... lots of things have happened...
Including the aquisition of a Springfield Armory XD Sub-Compact 9MM.
Not the same gun as was offered before... this one is slightly used. Has 100 rounds through it. Traded it in for a little boat and I brokered the deal. The XD was my fee. :D Long, complicated story.

Funny how things can sometimes just happen.

Pro: With a few minutes of work, I now have a 20 round magazine that works with it, to go along with the 2 factory mags.
Con: I don't have a holster for it.

George,

I think High Noon Holsters (and I'm sure some others by now) makes holsters specifically for the XD9 subcompact.

Congratulations on your new acquisition.

Now when are you going to be over in the civillized part of the state again so I can shoot it? I haven't shot one of the little XDs yet.

Well... the money from that boat deal should have gone to a tank of gas and to fixing the Subaru... but... uh...
:uhoh:
Probably getting the XD was unwise at the time. But I couldn't help it!

:D

I have some student loan money coming in a couple weeks that I can use to fix the car and stuff...

I have a G Code for my mini xd and that's the holster that causes the butt to stick out. of course its owb. I don't know maybe i'm funny shaped?

George Hill
August 21, 2003, 08:00 PM
Maybe you are wearing it in a bad position? That's funny because every other gun I have, the G-Code holds it nice and tight into my side better than other holsters.
