Has anyone used zinc gas checks? If so, what are the pros and cons as compared to copper?

40-50 yrs ago there were bullet molds specifically designed to accept a zinc washer and then alloy was poured in to the mold and out came a boolit with a zinc gas check. Worked ,but was somewhat more labor intensive than copper alloy checks. I still have one mold of that design somewhere in my mess but zinc washers of the correct dimension are probably hard to come by. I havn't seen any in a long time.
