So is the SAR-3 made by anyone inparticular?? just looking for more info on them to help make the decision between it and the Kel-Tec SU-16

The SAR-3 is assembled by Century Arms, using a US-made receiver and other parts imported from Romania, I belive.

Century is known to have spotty assembly quality. Some -3's have canted gas blocks throw the sights off enough that you can't get on zero. Others are fine. May be an old problem. Mine had it, but I have not heard of it happening recently.

I would not get one unless you are willing to tinker with it, or send it back if its not right. Once you get it right, its a fine AK variant. Mine has been utterly reliable. Do a search for other reports.

You may need to wait a while longer on that SU-16. I don't believe they are shipping yet.

i believe they are just starting to ship. i still have a few months. i am just doing research to make the right decisin. since i have to wait that could be a good thing, just to see if the SU-16 has any bugs that need to be worked out. thanks for the info.

Actually the rifle is built in Romania, in the Cugir arms factory I believe it's called, same place that makes AKs for the Romanians. The only assembly Century does is add in the US made parts, which is the fire control group, the gas piston, and the pistol grip. Anything to do with canted sights and such happens in Romania (and most all AKs of different manufacture have some cant problems occasionally, seems to be more common with the Romanian guns though {both my SAR1 and 2 are literally 100% straight...})

Don't have a SAR3 to comment on any quirks specific to it (which I understand it has some since it is the most "bastardized" of the SAR series)...

Hard to get good mags for the SAR3 Generally you have to run WENGER east German in it.

well i found a website that sells them. so if i buy 5 it should be good to last me for a while right????
